    Lathe stand for £13!!

Here's another view, showing the high degree of precision engineering at play

    Lathe stand for £13!!

Here's the pic - as I said - function is the key to appreciating this stand. I propose to add bags of gravel to the shelf to add weight if needed! You can just see the feet on the lathe. I am thinking of adding a 400 x 1000 plywood top, but this works very well at clearing the shavings. All...

    Lathe stand for £13!!

I have a productive weekend. Alongside doing the garden with (for) SWIMBO, I built a very sturdy stand for my little CCSL lathe. I made it entirely from old construction timber off cuts. The only thing I paid for were the 24 M10 coach screws that hold it all together. I was ripped off for them...

    Dewalt DW 625 router bearings

I finished the job and it I'd now like new! I'll happily share any tips. I bought a small 2/3 leg gear puller from screwfix which made light work of removing the bearings. Bottom one was more tricky. I used a couple of small pieces of tube to tap the new ones in. Good luck. Steve

    HSS - quench or not?

Tony Iles recommended to me regular dipping in water after every 'wipe' on the wheel. It will not damage it unless it is already too hot.

Cleaning heavily lime scaled shower screen ?

+1 to viakal. It is especially for limescale and works very well.

    Killinger lathe at Wood Works

Thanks, Mick That's very helpful. I only have a 12 x 8' shed, so space is at a premium. The Killinger is looking good. Please keep us informed when it arrives. All the best Steve

    going self employed should i......

I have been self employed for some years - not in woodwork (which is a hobby). My key comments:- Cash is king. There will be months when all your bills come at once and you have not been paid. Our vat is due tomorrow. In a good month it would be fine, this month it is making the pips...

    Airshield Pro comfort question

My wife thinks I've gone a bit loopy as I was walking around the house with the helmet on and the fan running. It's not that heavy at all. I bought it after one of my friends lost most of the sight of one eye when a small chip of wood he was chopping for kindling flew up into his eye. It...

    Airshield Pro comfort question

My new Trend Airshield Pro arrived from Axminster today. I went in with my eyes open knowing that it will be somewhat uncomfortable, but will keep the dust out of my eyes and nose. Does anyone have any tips to make it more comfy? I'm thinking of wearing a 'buff' as a cap. Does anyone do...
