So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Overall very pleased with the budget. It’s such a relief to have grown-ups running the country.

    Garage / workshop floor

It seems to say it is okay for more than 10mm. It specifically refers to screed.

    Garage / workshop floor

I’ve just had a look at resin based self levelling compound, which looks pretty good - very hard when it has cured and very smooth. Not sure if this is any good but probably cost effective in the long run. https://www.resincoat.co.uk/en/concrete-repair/323-resincoat-self-levelling-compound.html

    Garage / workshop floor

Interesting. Do you recall the details of the product you used? Also how thick/deep is the compound?

    Garage / workshop floor

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I am in the process of building a workshop with a concrete floor. I am at the pre-fit-out stage. I wasn’t planning to go for an ultra smooth finish, but reading this thread, perhaps I should reconsider things. I was going to seal and paint the floor but not...

    Replacing rusty screws

Hi folks I am working on a set of Victorian window shutters- the type that fold back on themselves. When I removed the hinges, the screws are coated in heavy surface rust. I will clean up and re-use most of them on the basis that the heads of the screws are not standard and all match each other...

How to alter frame to take 44mm door

It is a short term letting property. The rules say you need a fire risk assessment. We’ve installed linked smoke and heat alarms and a mister/sprinkler system. We thought it would be prudent to get a professional fire risk assessment, rather than just do one ourselves. Having had the risk...

How to alter frame to take 44mm door

To be honest, the whole assessment was very confusing. No explanation or advice- just a list of fairly arbitrary recommendations. One of his alternatives was to disconnect the cooker. We’re not talking about a large multiple occupation building. This is a two bed cottage.

How to alter frame to take 44mm door

thanks for the link. I had tried a few different searches. Didn’t think of “more door stuff”😉 I think I should try your solution.

    7 that’s not a bad idea.

How to alter frame to take 44mm door

Following a fire risk assessment, I need to replace some doors with FD30 fire rated doors. No need for intumescent strips etc, just heavier doors. One is easy - the frame is around 20 years old and the door jamb can easily be adjusted. The other door frame is an old 19th century solid lump...

    Shop made secondary glazing.

I am considering a project to make secondary glazing panels to insert between mullions in my bay window. the plan is to make frames with a 4- 6mm wide 15mm deep rebate routed out to take the glass. I want the overall thickness of the frame to be approx 15-18mm ; width around 25. I will fix...

    Luthier Tools

Totally agree that you should buy what you need when you need it. I really enjoy making tools, so I made my own spool clamps. I also made my own bending iron, and other bits and bobs. I was going to make some cam clamps, but feel you can’t beat Klemsia (?) clamps. I really don’t think you can...

Suizan, Hachiemon or other Japanese flush cut saw?

It was all very predictable. Feeling tired at the end of the day. Thinking, this is a very awkward, need to be very careful. Then the laws of physics and stupidity came into play and ouch! on the positive side - the saw has zero set and 0.5mm kerf, so it was nice clean cut and it should heal...

Suizan, Hachiemon or other Japanese flush cut saw?

Hi AJS this is not the saw for what you are looking for. The blade is so thin and flexible that it will be hard to keep it true. I am sure it could do the task you describe, but maybe not as easily as you expect. Also, note these saws are very sharp. I know to my cost as I managed to slice...

Suizan, Hachiemon or other Japanese flush cut saw?

So I have just bought the Gyokucho 1151 with the 5” blade on Amazon, selling for only £16.50. can’t really go far wrong at that price.
