    Bench re-planking...

So, I have this excellent iron bench that weighs in at about 100++kg - it's 2M long with 3 substantial iron supports (end-middle-end). It needs replanking and I'm wondering what to do. I can easily do this myself as I've made benches in oak for the National Trust etc., but then someone else was...

Mafell KSS60 18v crosscutting saw and OSB.

My lads both went to the Skinner's School in Tunbridge Wells - excellent place. Went to Skinner's Hall a few times when working in the City - lovely place. Mind you, many of the guild halls are exceptional buildings... Saw quite a few when I was a regular blood donor - the transfusion service...

    Silicon Valley Bank

They could hedge against rising interest rates and actually did up until the end of last year, but then changed their focus, believing (correctly) that interest rates had probably topped out, so dramatically reduced their hedging and crystalised the profit from those instruments they closed out...

    ChatGPT - artificial intelligence.

I use ESP32s (and their precursor, the ESP8266) a lot, plus there's about 6 Raspberry Pis in the house doing music, radio, smart speakers and Pi-Hole. Mostly though, I program in C++ on MSP32s for ultra-low-power IoT motes used in remote environmental monitoring. All the IDEs and compilers are...

Dumbing down work wear HSBC / BA

In the technology sector I have spent my working life in, we gave up suits and ties many years ago, unless you were customer facing. The move to "European smart casual" meant decent trousers and a jacket for the men and equivalent for women. In the software sector, even jackets have gone now...

    ChatGPT - artificial intelligence.

My degree was electronic engineering, physics and maths in the late '70s/early '80s. As you say, all the core theory is valid, as is all the analogue theory, which whilst not so fashionable in this predominantly digital age, is vital for signal transmission and conditioning. To be blunt...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Went to the Mondrian exhibition at the Tate Margate a while ago. Fascinating to see so many so close up, but they really haven't aged well at all. Some are very fragile with lots of paint flaking etc.

    T-Slot nuts for Kity 1619....

As my milling machine is currently hors de combat, I've made up a 3D cad model for CNC production and sometime in Jan will send off to an online manufacturer. I'll stick a few more in the order if you want.

    Joke Thread II

Just for explanation (Stuart etc )... This is a real bar in Laax, Switzerland - Laax is a mountain ski resort (I used to have an office there). The local language is Romansh (a type of Latin) and the Romansh word for "mountain" is... "Cr*p", hence the bar name... Edit: the forum software...

    Small Precision Screwdrivers

I still have my original Lindstrom's from when I was an apprentice/sponsored EE uni student back in the '70s (STL/ITT Harlow). Bought a few since then too. For PTH work they're excellent and great for general electronics...

    Small Precision Screwdrivers

For small tools or electrical sets, Wiha. Everything else, Wera. Pretty much every professional electrician I know uses Wiha VDE kit. Both are excellent toolmakers.

    Unlocking a mac

Very very tricky. These systems are pretty tightly locked down. You'll need a lot more than just good luck. If you have access to the previous owners Apple id you might get there... It's also worth investigating trying to reset the login password via "recovery mode", though on more recent...

    Strange Results On Ebay

You're not in the UK. Here, under the Criminal Justice Act (1988) Section 141A and the Offensive Weapons Act (2019) Part 3 which amended it, the sale of knives, razor blades, scalpels etc. to under 18s is strictly forbidden. If you are under 18, you cannot, legally, buy these things - to sell...

    T-Slot nuts for Kity 1619....

Hi I'm after some t-slot nuts for a Kity 1619 table saw. I would make some, however the milling head of my lathe is currently u/s.... I've attached a diagram of the cross-section. I've looked in the usual places and found nothing - ideas appreciated (and, yes, I've Googled a fair bit for...

    Joke Thread II

Think: PEZ Dispenser Really, not everybody "gets" all types of humor. Having to explain stuff takes away from the the joke (that you may or may not "get"). The endless puzzled emojis are quite tedious (IMHO). It's akin to the complaints about going a bit off topic a while ago - there were more...
