    Lathe not starting.

I don't know for sure, I will check it when I'm back in the shop.

    Lathe not starting.

So my new lathe has stopped working. It still gets power but it won't start, pressing the start but I hear a click. Looks like a phone call to Axminster for a return is in order.

    Sourcing wood for turning

So as you may know I got my first lathe a week ago. Where are the best places to source wood, seasoned blanks preferably as I really don't have to space to be storing wood for years. I don't tend to work with much hardwoods in the workshop so scrap bits are a bit light on the ground. I noticed...

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

I have posted this in the "the last thing you made" thread but thought I'd port here too. My first officially turned item. A pen made from oak finished using CA glue for no other reason then I want to try it. Several mistakes where made but I'm still happy with it.

Bought my first lathe yesterday 😁

I already have few of those items. The chap at Axminster upgraded the live and stab centre that come with the lathe to something a little nicer. Got a record power 4 Jaw chuck from Yandles on a sale price and I already have a Trend face mask respirator thing, aure it needs a new visor but works...

Bought my first lathe yesterday 😁

It might only be the Axminster AW205 but I love it. I haven't turned anything proper yet, just practiced on some oak scraps. I also picked up the Axminster pen starter kit which I'm really looking forward to using.

    Small Workshop Build - 4.8m x 2.4m

Rubber roof and no skylight? You could have bought a cheap double glazed unit from a window company and made a frame. What planes do you have for heating the space, ventilation? Cracking build so far though 😉

    3D Printing for Pen Blanks

A while ago I watched a youtube video of a chap that used a 3D printer to make some pen blanks. I found that interesting and just wondered if any of the pen turns here have or do use a 3D printer in their pen blank making.

Could this work for sharpening gouges?

Found this an interesting idea, seems to work well enough on flat chisels but wondered if it could be used to sharpen gouges.

Nothing fancy just a simple MDF fire surround using mitred corners to hide the edge because it's been painted.

    For those with cordless routers...

If you always have a hose attached then going battery doesn't seem to make sense. You save on not having to buy multiple batteries. If however you are on site and outside a lot then going cordless can be a benefit

    Parkside track saw

Probably lock tight. A little heat can help break the bond.

    What could go wrong. Veiko.

So I decided to take a punt on some cheap Chinesium tools. The brand is Veiko. I have: 600mm square (not in the photo) 300mm square. 500mm t-square. Precision Square. 45° Precision Square. Adjustable t-square I have ordered a Speed Square too but that has not arrived. First of the build...

Collection of 3d printing files relevant for woodworking

I'll be the first to admit that using this is a little clunky but it does work well enough. I'd only use it to mark where the holes go and not as a drilling guide. I've also entered it into the Printables Drilling contest. https://www.printables.com/model/651087-cabinet-handles-spacing-jig
