    Wolf Drill Overhaul

Hi, I know nowt about Wolf drills Im afraid but if your saying that there is a threaded shaft sticking up out of the gear with the key that youve uncovered by removeing the nut,, have you tried giving this shaft a few solid taps useing a brass drift so as not to damage the threads? I cannot see...

Advice needed : repair walking cane

I think the saw tooth metal tube idea is great, should be easy to make esp if you had access to a Dremel type tool to cut the teeth and the broken screw would act to keep it all centred,,,the only problem might be how long is the old screw? Would be worth knowing this before you start, maybe you...

    Digital callipers.

Are people really woodworking to thous? Ive got three sets, a really crappy Draper branded punched out mild steel contraption that B&Q sold about 30yrs ago, that one hangs on a nail and is somthing between a tape and a decent vernier, and two pairs of sliding scale verniers, both picked up at...

    Flattening Board

Im assuming your not trying to make “chippendale” quality furniture with scaffold boards, in which case I have been quite surprised what I can get away with/overcome useing crappy old wood. My “saw bench” is a home made affair and yet its quite possible to split down boards like yours, cup up...

Are there any golden rules for making solid and stable tables?

How about suggesting a really radical take on their table design, have the lovely thin legs on top of the table and hang by them from the ceiling, sure it will swing about like your on a boat but you will never bark your shins and it will be a breeze to hoover round!

Are these cheap jigs good enough for a one off?

Have to agree with the comments in support of the cheap kit, as he said its a one off job, no point in buying expensive stuff when this will do the job and much more I expect.

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Another vote for the Router, and doing this simple job with a bearing guided bit might inspire you to do a few more things. As to putting planes on there sides, it just jars when I see people setting them down on the blade,,looks so amateurish even though clearly its not!

    Tack cloths/rags?

So the Beeswax doesnt prevent say varnish application? Im amazed! I dont really do any fine furniture work, mostly pine and often reclaimed stuff, but I varnish bits for my boat and just use a damp cloth, rinse it a couple of times and nib between coats and I seem to get a pretty good...

    e-scooter trial, London

Im no dxpert in this, far from it but I suspect that cycling will only flourish after building the cycle lanes and infrastructure that supports it, saying that there are just a few bikes therefore there is no need for cycle lanes is short sighted, I couldn't encourage anyone where I live to...

Personallly Im quite happy with the idea of exploreing all forms of personal transport, inc e-scooters and bikes and I suspect the govt are too and they dont want to stiffle it at birth, were at the begining of great and nessesary changes it seems and as with the motor car perhaps it will become...

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

How wonderful to be able to do without a car, were lucky with a reasonable bus service every 30mins to two big towns but none at all to Southampton, but if I had to buy a ticket I would have to think twice,,very expensive, certainly much cheaper to use the car, and there would be so many things...

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

Wow this is an intresting thread and so long now that I dont have the time to read every post so forgive me if this has already been said, we live in an old house that is cold, solid walls and floor. I know that with modern materials its possible to “engineer” a house that takes very little...

    Which "Stanley" knife? Recommendations please.

I sharpen mine, got into doing that when I helped a carpet fitter chum on odd days bunking off college for cash, he carried a little stone and was constantly sharpening the blades as it was then quicker than opening up the screwed together Stanley knife, when I mentioned it to someone recently...
