I use a cable tie on my saw in a bench but you can switch it on and off at the socket,,,put a canle tie onto a cordless drill and there is realisticly no way of stopping it! Steve.

CCTV & Alarm or neither - Detached garage workshop security

Im in two minds about cctv, I think its good in as much as it allows the police to see the criminals, assumeing the police are in any way intrested! But Im not sure I like the set up where your alerted if people come near your property. Our neighbours have a set up like that on their house and...

Help - table saw rise and fall isn't working

Just an afterthought, have you tried pulling on the rise and fall wheel whilst trying to turn it? if it is something like a thrust washer missing you would likely find that the shaft would be able to move back towards you. Steve.

    Bargain of the day!

I know this sounds daft but I really like the appearance of varnished MDF, a few coats of polyurethane and its a lovely finish, the edges need sealing first though if you dont want to be applying about 15coats! A few years ago I made up some utility room wall cabinets entirely from MDF and...

Help - table saw rise and fall isn't working

I dont know anything about tablesaws but just from a general point of view it does apear that the top gear is running off centre, its too far forward as can be seen by the grease marks and its position,,so my guess would be that there is a thrust washer or bearing somewhere on that top shaft...

    Energy Saving

But it seems I've been making tea wrong all this time from Chris152 so I need to buy a temperature varying kettle immediately! How long will another £50 on a kettle that does that take to pay for itself if I only heat water to 80 dgrees C instead of boiling? Lidls plastic kettle with temp...

    Energy Saving

Interesting, I knew about the coffee but not the tea water temps, and weve just bought an Aldi elect kettle that allows you to preset the temp, there is a digital readout on the top and it switches off automatically,,,,however our impression of well brewed supermarket teabag tea is that using...

    Energy Saving

Going back to the water temp at startup,,my son uses electric showers for hairwashing sinks in his hairdressers, in the winter he has to switch to the higher power setting ( not the water flow) to get the correct temp because the mains water temp is that much lower, I suppose the temp difference...

    Heating a garage workshop

If the problem is warm air getting to cold tools causing condensation then the infa red heaters above should be a good option, as I understand it they warm you up without raising the air temp genrally (is that possible??) Steve.

    Wine rack project

Great project esp if your starting out or getting going again, just as a matter of intrest what sort of tools do you have access to? I know its been suggested you could screw it together but its a good candidate for dowels, cheap and easy enough to use and once youve used them you will find...

A new bench for my bandsaw

Many thanks everyone, I suppose the narrow height of a small bandsaw is always going to result in it being a bit top heavy, and given that your possibly pushing material through it it certainly makes good sense to add weight lower down. Well worth knowing about and thanks once again. Steve.

A new bench for my bandsaw

Ah I see, I can imagine it would make it all feel more solid,,if you fix it down will you have to be mindful about restricting the size of timber you can put through it? Im really just thinking out loud in case I do end up getting one myself. Steve.

A new bench for my bandsaw

I keep thinking of buying a bandsaw and your table is really very smart indeed, but why does it have to be so heavy,,wouldnt an mdf cabnet be just as good,,maybe on wheels too? Steve

    Help buying quality wood.

Ive bought from Christchurch Timber and its been okay, they have a fearsome bandsaw and will slice down bigger bits for you, and whilst I didnt buy any Ive visited Linwood Timber at Three Cross and they had a good selection, best to go when we've had a few dry days! Steve.

Wall mount fixing for fabric covered panels (headboard)

Firmly fix all the lower ones any way you like and stand the top ones on top of these, velcro or magnets would be enough to stop those falling forward,, Btw is this for sound deadening!

Table saw Blades - seeking advice & information

Somone mentioned sharpening their own blades and its somthing Im going to try, my idea is to use one of those wet tile cutting machines, the little plastic ones with a diamond blade, it can be worn out because the bit you want to work with is the side of the blade where there is still a fair...

Anyone know what this saw blade is for?

The blade below was part of an Aldi twin pack of 185mm tct blades, I had only recently fitted the crosscut blade, 48t from memory and it was still good and sharp,,however trying to rip cut some well seasoned oak had it bogged down and burning badly. The problem with home made saws (apart from...
