    Endgrain jointed chopping boards.

Very smart indeed, I suppose a planer thicknesser is really required to get all the blocks identical in size, and then its just glue? Steve.

    ***** question of the day....

Definately the way to go, quite by accident I discovered that pulling my baggy working trousers over my Joggers worked incredibly well, it has to be cold though otherwise you bake! My other great buy was an Aldi Yellow coat like the road workers wear, light, waterproof and with a nylon padding...

    Dowel sizes

Ah that makes sense, mine started off just a little over 1/2ins sq section, so there was a fair bit being cut off, and they did look fairly raggy before holding a bit of course paper round them for a few secconds, but as I said I thought this might actualy be a good thing. I used oak and maybe...

    Dowel sizes

Peri, your dowel plate looks very professional, do you have to do much prep before pushing the wood through the plate? the reason Im asking is that I made one where the hole is close to the edge and a cut made with a hacksaw from the edge into the hole, the little tang of metal is then bent a...

How to benefit from smart meters?

I did read a while ago that it would be more efficient to have smaller power stations but more of them sited locally, I dont recall the reasoning for them being near to the consumer, but they put forward to idea that Rolls Royce who already produce very reliable and effcient small scale nuclear...

How to benefit from smart meters?

I have nothing against smart meters if the elect industry want them, but I think its wrong to dress up their introduction as a green initiative and bill the consumer for them. I understand there have been several surveys into how much consumers actually save and its exactly as you would imagine...

Is 18mm plywood enough for a cold water tank support base? And what type of ply?

Im sure this is something you've covered but just as a point of interest, it seems unuseual to have water tanks anymore, everyone seems to have gone over to combi boilers, its not now just a coldwater storage tank that you could get rid of? Steve.

Mystery - Bench top Table Saw parts

Hello Kev, the review is on Utube and is for the Dewalt 7491 Site Saw, the lower dust extraction port is as you say part of the blade houseing,,which also has the motor bolted to it and when chummy is twisting the hose off the port it did seem that the alloy unit was moving around, the reviewer...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Sorry I could have been clearer, previously these Bandsaws seem to sell out extreamly quickly and Ive then seen them being advertised at a higher price on ebay, I guess there are people who buy several and then sell them on, which can make it even more difficult to get one. I clicked a button a...

Mystery - Bench top Table Saw parts

Hello again Rob, sorry to trouble you again but what do you make of the lever lock for the bevel angle? it looks like a plastic handle, is it all plastic including the locking part itself and do these parts look fairly robust? Actually since writeing the above Ive been ferriting around on the...

Replacement pillar drill column and base?

I was looking at the photo and was thinking that it seemed such a large jump from the table at its lowest to the base which is also set up to take hold downs, the column doesn't slide down inside the base does it? Its a great looking drill though and rather than mess with it I would be investing...

Best humidifier for unheated garage workshop

Cant you rigup some heavy curtains across the door, old blankets come to mind, a steel(?) up and over door is like a large radiator so definatly worth trying to cover or insulate it I would think. Steve. Btw they use the Meaco type on boats where winter temps get very low and I know from...

Mystery - Bench top Table Saw parts

Many thanks Rob, I think I will get myself one. I spent somewhile looking online for reviews and there are a couple, both mostly positive and Im impressed with the Alloy top rather than the pressed steel ones which I think look cheap. I guess like you said they are going to be a bit noisey given...

Do you own this simple dowel jig?

This Woden set looks like a better engineered version of the Stanly where the guides are Singles and are just clamped in steel tubes, again they would be imperial sizes I guess? Steve.

Do you own this simple dowel jig?

Having previously only used those little copper pointed inserts you pop into one hole and it marks the other, I recently used an old Stanley 59 dowel jig I had been given and whilst its of course imperial sized it was a delight to use and I found it perfectly accurate. No help to you Im afraid...

Mystery - Bench top Table Saw parts

Rob, Musicman, whats your opinions on this saw, it looks of course very similer to the DeWalt which is at least three times the price and I beleive its got a solid alluminium top and a good fence,,Im tempted because I do all my sawing outside and its got to be light enough to be carried out of...

    Wanted Decent quality splitting axes

My splitting axe is a Sandvik “Maul” which if you look at the expensive Swedish site linked to earlier, is the same pattern as the one they do called Slaggy,,like a cross between an axe and a sledge hammer, uses a straight Sledge handle. Ive been very pleased with it. Steve.
