Nearly put this in the joke thread

And I would guess that as a consequence of these “light touch” regulations they will be popular, and thats perhaps what we should be trying to achieve, a transformation of our transport habits which because they are new and different will need adjusting to,,just as it was when cars replaced...

Nearly put this in the joke thread

Its a wide ranging topic so here goes,,, In Rome we found lots of “Zebra Crossings” except the traffic will not stop for you,,in the end you realise that you just have to start walking and the cars stop, but as you pass the lane behind you starts off again and the lane in front is still...

    TALLOW!!!

My thoughts entirely whilst reading this thread, I did a few years as a pipe fitter (fitters mate) and cut and screwed miles of pipe for heating systems and plant, and Tallow was the lubricant, our standard stocks and dies were a small set that you could cut from 3/8 up to 2inch with, heavy...

    Strictly Come Rigging....

I heard dancing once described as “the vertical manifestation of horizontal desires” which is just a fancy way to repeating what you said,,

    Since when do we.....

I think “quarter turn ceramic disc” taps are available as handed pairs. Steve

    Wall plate sourcing?

Your very lucky having a building like that and Im sure its well worth spending a bit of time on it, the big bit of Oak would be my choice but if you go down that route you will need a mate to help you lift it,,,it surprised me just how heavy a smallish oak beam was. Steve.

    G Clamps

Many thanks, I will give it a go, its just one clamp that seems to be affected,,it might be worth touching up the trigger part with a chainsaw file whilst Im at it,,

    Scary robot video.

Of course your right, developments have taken place and people have largely been able to change skills to accomodate them, but I think what might be different now is the speed and scope of change, were presently looking at the loss of retail jobs, warehouse jobs, the Occado distribution hub in...

    G Clamps

I have a few of the older Yellow Quick Clamps, look like the bigger Irwins but lately I found that a couple of them are not maintaining presure, I was going to try turning the bar over to see if that made any difference, has anyone tried this? Its funny reading how people like the Wolf versions...

    Scary robot video.

Its certainly fasinating stuff, one thing I wondered, will it be possible in the distant future to download our brain,,I believe its just a collection of electrical signals/connections? and then install that in one of these super realistic robots,,is that a concept for eternal life? Steve.

    Scary robot video.

I think its already been recognised that it will become necessary to tax the robots, up untill now mechanisation has often meant higher productivity and higher profits but at the cost of some jobs, mass mechanisation, ie Lorry and taxi Drivers which are already in the sights of the self driving...

    Pocket Hole Jigs?

Hello Droogs, I think your video and our friends Bang Good models are different,,I cannot see any means of raiseing the towers on the BG and the one in your video doesnt have the extra pair of holes!

    Pocket Hole Jigs?

Hi, the Bang Good one looks great and is similar to the Trend ones I have except I only have one pair of guides, Im assuming that they have approached the problem of centering the screw exit hole on thicker material by giving you a steeper angle?
  16. S

    Pocket Hole Jigs?

Are the newer Trend Jigs adjustable for different thicknesses of material? I have two of the Trends, very nicely made in quality wooden boxes but the “towers” do not adjust in height which you need if your going to use longer screws on thicker material, where as the Kregs adjust, I dont...

Do you think a rehardened stanley socket chisel...

Always interesting to read your posts Dave, but please dont think my lack of response is indifference, its just so technical and well presented that it doesnt bear comment from me. BTW the chisels look superb. Steve.

    ***** question of the day....

Might be of less use to woodworkers but a retired engineer friend always stood on duck boards to keep his feet up off the cold workshop floor, said it was also the norm at work. I imagine good if doing lathe work. Today Ive been wearing my new woollen “Beanie Hat” they are I think US army...

    Diy domino

I knocked up a simple jig for fitting loose tenons, in effect giant Baldimos(T/m) and it worked very well, however I think a useful aspect of a Domino is that you can operate it flat like a biscuit cutter which could be a bit trying with a router supported by just a guide bush,,,or do you have a...
