Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I don’t want to take the thread off topic too much. But the electronic groupsets are super easy to install and setup. Shimano (at the time) are/were semi wireless so there was a bit of cable routing (battery to both mechs). SRAM was fully wireless and ludicrously easy. The main reasons I left...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I had a brief career change last year and worked at Ribble Cycles. Had the pleasure of fitting Di2 (dura ace and ultegra) and SRAM’s wireless group sets…so nice. Used to be a bit depressing cycling home on my 9 speed R3000 group set lol.

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

The only table saw incident was when I was an apprentice. They had a large sliding table saw with outriggers (wadkin, can’t remember model no.) so you could cut 10’x4’ sheets by yourself. Guard attached to riving knife, saw occasionally got used for grooving so both were removed (before my time)...

    decent hand plane wanted /recommendations

One of my favourite planes is a no.4 Record that I got off eBay for a tenner. I’m not a plane nerd but it has smooth frog and rosewood handles. On the other end of the scale, I bought a veritas 5 1/4 about 5 years second hand in great nick. I just had a look and was surprised to see they are...

    Upside down doors

To be fair, the door situation wasn’t a mistake (in my opinion) as the rails and Hinge placement was same top and bottom. It’s down to whether you like bigger panel at the top or bottom (unless they are supposed to fitted a specific way, I don’t know). Wallpaper also sounded a bit ambiguous...

    Upside down doors

i recently fiited some doors (oak veneered with top/bottom rails with horizontal panels, can’t remember the name of them). The rails were almost the same width and that stressed me out quite a lot and I lost count of the amount of times I checked. I could imagine mistakes being made with those...

    Upside down doors

On brand new frames, you’d probably be able to flip them, jockey the hinge recesses and flip the latch (even that’d be a bodge) but on old frames (as you mentioned) that’d probably end up super gappy. How many doors did he hang? I use the word hang generously. i really hope you get him back as...

    Upside down doors

Jesus…id Imagine a day 1 apprentice could, maybe, make that mistake once…maybe. Get him back and insist that he fixes the problem to your satisfaction using his time and money. This reminded me, when I was an apprentice, a fellow apprentice asked me which way panelled doors were fitted (he’d...

    Dust Extractors

From what I’ve read/heard, impeller type extractors (chip collector with bags) can have the hose further away from the workpiece (on the lathe) compared to a vacuum type. You definitely need a ‘fine’ filter (usually 1 micron) on it or vent it in a different room, partition or outside if using a...

Can I do this on a drill press?

Before I got a lathe, I turned a couple of pens on my pillar drill So its definitely possible. i should say that I made the setup (tool rest, work holding, etc) as sound/safe as possible but it still felt a bit sketchy and very awkward.
