    Festool domino: benefits + price

I got a df500 and the sustainer with dominos/cutters a while ago. My day job is a joiner but the domino is mainly used at home for hobby woodwork. Its definitely expensive but I’ve not regretted it one bit and can say with 99% certainty I won’t be selling It, And that’s from someone who has no...

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Once, I used liberon finishing oil on an off cut of ash and it cured the most disgusting shade of yellow. It was truly vile. Im not sure why, but I’ve also used hard wax oil (chestnut and osmo) also on ash and Its much better. Not too far off sanding sealer but still slightly yellower. I’d...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I don’t own a planer so I usually flatten stuff by hand and then use my thicknesser. I sometimes use a board and wedge jig on my thicknesser for flattening . Flattening and thicknessing all by hand is something I’d rather not do.

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

The only issue with that is you’re basically mimicking what the thicknesser does (Ie forcing it down onto the bed) so you’ll likely still have bow, cup and/or twist. if you feel uncomfortable about using the planer and don’t work with overly pieces you could always use a simple jig to use the...

    Have any dumb dreams?

I have a very similar dream on quite a regular basis. Obviously, there’s a hidden message yet to be discovered… Scariest dream was when I was around 15. Fell asleep face down (and probably drunk) with my arm on my chest. Arm eventually goes numb, cue dream of arm being amputated. Woke up very...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Still working my way through the ipe decking my neighbours gave me. Latest order were 3 planters and a small outdoor table (to go with the numerous adirondacks) for my mum. Table has a bit of staining that just wouldn’t plane/sand out so that’s a feature and it needs another coat of osmo...

Kept it super shallow as it’s got a Chuck recess and my first attempt ended like this  I’m really out of practice.

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

A few weeks I finished a job which included replacing the clients staircase. It was the type commonly seen in the 70s, I call them death trap staircases (no offence if you have one). Treads (complete with super slick varnish finish) sat on 2 notched pseudo strings and no risers. Anyway, bloke...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I needed to drill a load of pocket holes today and didn‘t fancy using the face clamp so made this. This is the kreg kphj320 pocket hole jig and with preset depth stops removed and the jig bottomed out it works out right for 3/4” material. With a bit of modding it’d work for thicker/thinner...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

We had spacer shims (basically the same as the card but metal) and quite often you could even get it in as the pad clearance on Road hydros is tiny. i think it was the fact that I was doing it so many times a day, whereas on my own bike I need to adjust very occasionally. i will say, it gave my...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

During my brief stint as a cycle mechanic, I build a fully integrated bike to completion before realising it needed to be set up continental. That was not a fun moment
