    How square is your square

I'm in need of a new combination square, think I'll go for a bahco due to already owning quite a few sandvik/bahco tools. I used to have a Rabone combination square that I found in my grandads garage. Absolutely spot on and build quality was excellent. Unfortunately, I lost it a while ago #-o...

    Favorite YouTube woodworker

That was me, I deleted my post by accident. It was a worthless post anyway, basically I was just moaning about some youtubers shoving patreon in your face .

    Double or single glaze door?

I have to admit I've enjoyed reading this thread, apart from the childish crap. Started out with a single or double glazed door which then went onto trombe walls and thermal mass. I'd never even heard of trombe wall before this and knew very little about thermal mass. I still know about...

    chest of drawers WIP

Thanks for the write up and the photos. I've never thought of putting additional saw cuts in, sounds like a good idea and something I will try. As for sawing free hand bevels, unfortunately my ocd (I'm not being flippant saying that) doesnt allow such a thing (hammer). Nice work.

Apple wood T candles holders- learning by my mistakes.

Nice work and sorry to see the one that split. I was going to echo sunnybobs comment until i saw you used led candles. I didnt know there was a such a thing. My mum is obsessed with scented candles so I made her some tea holders a few years ago from scraps of hardwood. Over the last couple of...

Read that thread a while ago. Very well written.

    Crosscutting handsaw help required

I probably shouldnt mention this.. When I started my apprenticeship, a lot of the joiners used bow saws (not old style, but sandvik tree sawing 3 tpi things) to cut everything apart from sheet materials. This included skirting and architrave (softwood only). Their joints weren' t bad...

    Crosscutting handsaw help required

It doesn't have to cost you £100. I would suggest looking on ebay but that'd probably require sharpening. With your own admission to being new to woodworking, that might not be something you want to jump into straightaway. It isnt difficult, and it is a skill well worth learning if you plan to...

Vices - Fitting a Record Bench Vice

I agree with the apron comment. They make the bench rock solid but they are a pita when I want to cramp something to the top (a temporary stop, etc) and you have to use a massive f-cramp or sash cramp. Allows makes a raising bench dogs from underneath a pain (in the back). On the flip side, you...

I think the method is the same with japanese saws but the outstretched finger resides on the handle. I recall seeing someone a YT woodworker doing that. Think it was Matt Estlea.

    Warping oak

All I can say is cascamite isn't flexible at all, it cures rock hard. Cant say if it will solve your problem, sorry.

Box spline jig for the table saw.

Great information and the finished box is really nice. But the spindle moulder, is the thing that piqued my main interest. Love the way that fence works. I think the last time I used and saw a spindle moulder was back in 97, it was a standard looking wadkin. No guards  , no extraction...

    Crosscutting handsaw help required

I'd imagine a japanese saw would be more difficult to learn than a traditional handle saw. Although I've never used one, I can imagine its like using a gents saw or coping saw. I dont have a career in fine woodworking, just carpentry/joinery, but after 20 odd years I still dont enjoy those...

Vices - Fitting a Record Bench Vice

I made a bench, copying Paul Sellers first bench build, back in 2012 (iirc). The thing is still rock solid. I also used his method of vice mounting. It is fine, but sometimes I wish I had flush mounted it so the apron was the rear jaw.

    Anyone had a gastroscopy?

I had one about 14 years. I opted for sedative (I think the spray is not optional). As James said, you are technically awake but you are so 'out of it' the whole experience is like a weird dream.

Bench top planer - Buying Assistance

The bloke from badger workshop on youtube has a couple of videos on the Metabo PT. I also have a DH330, that I jig to flatten. I occassionally use a router sled but most of the time I use a hand plane to flatten/joint. A dedicated machine would be a nice luxury.
