New here... love to get into woodworking need advice

I dont think b&q even sell 8x2 treated. As a northerner, I cant be help with the London bit. I'd have a search round for local timber as opposed to b&q. I found this at my local timber yard (I'm lucky to live 5 mins drive away) https://georgehill-timber.co.uk/shop/ti ... o-sleeper/...

Theory of interior house door (and frame) fitting

You can 'double' recess the hinge into the door so both leaf thicknesses are chopped into the door. Personally, I dont like doing that as: 1. If the hinge leaves are chunky it doesnt look very good. 2. You'll be relying on the screws only (as opposed to the hinge being in a recess) holding all...

Making a very long slim wedge or fillet..

I'd call it a fillet too. If possible, I'd hand saw it oversized and then plane it to finished size. I'm just guessing here but you try the 'crimson guitars' method of work holding to your bench (superglue and masking tape). Alternatively search youtube for table saw tapering jig, theres...

    Joinery pencil

Do you not have trouble seeing a 4H? Admittedly, my eyesight isnt great but there are times (and timbers) where I can barely see a 2H. Agree with the biro, I've used biro on and off for the last 20 years...mainly due to losing pencils but they do make an excellent alternative. Rotring pencil...

Theory of interior house door (and frame) fitting

Good luck, it isnt difficult. Just take your time. At the beginning of my apprenticeship I was pretty terrible (some say I still am :D )but found door hanging not difficult and always got good feedback. The weight of the door is the main issue. Hope to see a photo when finished if its ok?

FS: Square and Saw File Holder

I bought these as part of a bigger order from Classic Hand Tools. They were bought on a whim really and I've never used or even opened them. I only have 2 saws that can be resharpened and they are both filed rip, which I can do by eye or with a small piece of wood on the file so the veritas was...

Theory of interior house door (and frame) fitting

Definitely agree, dont have one leg suspended to level the head. Cut the 'longer' leg to the required height. I've seen plenty of joiners leave a leg suspended on the fixings and even the latch side (which is only carrying its own weight) has slumped down causing the door to bind on the frame head.

Theory of interior house door (and frame) fitting

The ideal situation is to fit the frame so the plasterer can skim flush to the frame. In your situation, be aware if the walls either side of the frame have any twist or not consistent thickness you will need to do some filling around the architrave. Doors come in industry standard: 2'6"...

    Dyeing Bubinga??!

No harm in trying. do you have an off cut you could try it on? If you like the end result (which is all that matters) then its not a waste. edit: forgot to say, the maple looks good.

    Rob Cosman's winding sticks

Its pretty handy, in my experience. I went with the cheap/quick option on the sticks I made ages ago... a pencil line :|

    Old Record, Stanley, Marples ...

Probably watched a Paul Sellers video before selling. He seems to have a timber sub base on all of his router planes.

branded vs diy router plane vs old womans tooth

Paul Sellers method is a temporary method, it works ok but once you need to remove the chisel to sharpen it wont refit as tightly. Its pretty difficult to find a record or Stanley at a reasonable on ebay. Online second hand tool sellers also charge a premium. Paul Sellers is widely...

    Rob Cosman's winding sticks

Was the email dated 1st of April by any chance? and I thought his saws were a rip off. No doubt, there will be plenty daft enough to buy them. Does he actually use winding sticks? I saw one of his videos where he was flattening a piece and just kept using his bench to check it was...

Power tool cases - what's it all about?

I'm normally like that but the aforementioned router (above) really was the straw that broke the camels back.
