    Footprint Planes.

Good comment. I've got an assortment of plane ranging from relatively expensive to pretty cheap (subjective opinion). I've found faithfull bench planes (4,5 and 7 especially) to be pretty good, they just need a bit of tinkering.

    Footprint Planes.

Agreed. As mentioned, theres nothing wrong with getting a cheaper new no.4 (Faithfull for example), cambering the iron and moving the frog right back or filing the throat if needed. As an alternative, I recall Paul Sellers using a 778/78 with a heavily cambered iron with decent results.

Building an Anglo-Saxon hall with axes...

Thanks for the excellent post and pictures. I have to echo the opinions of others, I'd loved to have been part of that project. Well done and excellent work.

Veritas wonder dog/pup mounting hole size

I'll check the drill bit I used for mine late but I'm pretty sure it was 19mm and its pretty tight. Edit: It was 19mm

A couple of advice questions really.

I was taught to free hand sharpen during my joinery apprenticeship in the early 90's. Its certainly a skill worth learning but I recently got a super cheap eclipse style honing guide (made by faithfull) and it does the job fine. I find the opinion that honing guides are either slow or for noobs...

    Bandsaw and PT advice

I quite enjoy flattening a face and jointing an edge by hand but wouldn't be without a thicknesser for anything. I got the Metabo one, think it was around £330 from D&m. A bandsaw is something I've been meaning to get for a while but cant afford at the moment. I could afford a 10" but I think...

    Is this Washita

I've only owned (and seen) one Washita and it was grey/white colour. I dont have it anymore, iirc I gave it to Alf in 2006. The only reason I know it was a Washita, was due to some very clear 'Norton Washita, etc' branding on it. edit: just found the thread, I described it as a Norton no.1...

Plunge/track saw and rails - which one?

I normally like Makita stuff but I find the lack of riving knife on their model an important consideration. Bosch also doesn't have one, I think the dewalt does and also has a anti kick back system. edit: I dont think the Bosch rails mix with the others and due to being quite narrow can make...

    GOT and other TV series

I saw Chernobyl advertised earlier this year so was looking forward to it for a while. Its definitely lived up to my expectations. I'm glad they took the same approach as Fortitude, and just let the actors use their own accents. Speaking of accents/voices...Jared's and Richard's.. I...

    Tablesaw and Dust

My dad uses one similar to the first one Bob listed, just a different manufacturer. I think they are pretty similar, Record Power DX1000, etc. Easily copes with Chop saw, table saw and lunch box thicknesser. Like rafezetter, I've used my shop vac (screwfix titan) with the table saw and chop...

    Scraper sharpening

Made in Portugal according to the one I got last year. Unless we're talking about scrapers, I paid £6 from D&M. The one I use most was a home made one. Cut from an irwin hardpoint saw plate, it looks terrible but is easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a while. It was the first scraper I used...

Funny visit to A & E last year

I can sympathise with you on some level. I had a cycling accident many years ago, which resulted in me having a large cut/hole beneath just above my upper lip. Nearly all the way through. Quite a few injections and stitches, I like to think I can handle a bit of pain but that hurt. On the bright...

    GOT and other TV series

Pretty sure it has different writers/people in charge too. Weiss and Benioff are doing the next Star Wars film, hence them coping a load of flack for being more interested in that than season 8.
