    A new YouTube channel

I recall when I signed up here, the only easily found videos were the Wood Whisperer. I don’t recall his videos being on YouTube then either. A lot has changed, YouTube is super saturated with woodworking channels and I’d imagine it could be very difficult to get noticed. I do wish Tom good luck...

    Segmented turning books or websites.

It’s an ugly duckling and the walls are very thick. I began to lose confidence while turning the inside. Didn’t put a finish on, it doesn’t deserve it. (hammer)

    Model cars

Anyone here collect model cars? 2012, I regressed into childhood and purchased a silly amount of 1:18 AutoArt 911’s. I ended up selling them to get a new bike in 2013 but I kept one, not a 911. I was just browsing photos on my phone and found it. Bought in 2012, paid an amount I’d rather not...

    My first 'proper' turn

    Very nice.

    Segmented turning books or websites.

Hi, could anyone recommend some resources ( books, websites, YouTube, etc) on segmented turning please. I made my first segmented ‘bowl’ (actually looks more like a flower pot) recently. It turned out ok (the walls are very thick though) but getting some advice would definitely be wise before...

    Mushy Peas

Same here, dinner midday and evening meal is tea. It’s a classic northern vs southern thing. Having said, my sister has raised her kids to say lunch and dinner. Traitor :D

    Mushy Peas

I’m a Northerner who isn’t into gravy. Curry sauce yes. 50 p sounds like a proper bargain though. When I was at Bolton college, there used to be 2 chippies on the main road opposite each other. They were always locked in a price battle, I think they reached a limit when it was 2 massive chip...

    Tool rests

The modular aspect makes more sense. Thanks for highlighting the issue with having the rest as close as possible. That’s something I wouldn’t have thought of but it’s easy to understand why. Thanks for the reply (Lazarus also thanks)

    Mushy Peas

I saw what you did there 8) I’m a big fan of mushy peas. The comment of looking regurgitated is totally accurate though. Black peas are a close second.

    Tool rests

As a newcomer to turning (started in Feb) could anyone explain what the purpose of the cylindrical tool rests is please? I’ve seen the S shape ones to get inside bowls, pretty self explanatory but I’ve seen quite a few people using straight ones on spindle turning.

Glad to hear you've got it sorted out.

    Hand tools

I'd fore go all other machines if the band saw was the only one I could have. They are quiet but you *really* should have a dust collector connected to it as the dust will accumulate around the lower wheel pretty quick. So the vac will negate the quietness of the saw. Definitely agree on the...

    Saw sharpening files

Hooray, another Manchester member. I'm sorry I missed your earlier posts regarding tools and timber. I would have probably bought some of both (without sounding presumptuous) if I had known earlier. Good to hear that you've done well selling and it was very generous to give away all...

    Hand tools

I just dont see how your heritage plays any part in tool selection and I found calling Japanese tools 'cute toys' strangely annoying. Other than that, good post.

Full Face vs Half Face Mask

 My smoking days are long since gone, cycling became my new addiction. I have to wear a hard hat at work, so weight isn't a problem. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be looking around for a better solution.

    Hand tools

I don't think power tools take the skill out of woodworking at all. Hand tools is 90% of my home woodworking (vice versa at day job) but I still use power for some things, no reason why they both can't exist unless you're noise restricted (as you said).

    Hand tools

I own mostly western tools but I do own (and have) tried a few Japanese. My experience: Planes: Western (be it wooden or metal) are far easier to set up and use. Saws: Mainly western but I own a Dozuki, which I use a lot and is excellent. For cutting larger pieces (where a Ryoba comes into...

Full Face vs Half Face Mask

Appreciate your input Inspector. I'll re read this thread later today when I'm more awake. Over recent years, I've made a large effort to use power tools less and improve dust collection at the source. Improving the mask situation is something I need to do asap though.
