    2021 Secret Santa.

Just to let the sender know, I received a parcel on Monday. Thank you very much (y) I'm looking forward to opening it on Christmas Day. Just asking, there isn't really a pizza in the box is there? I'll be posting mine this afternoon, just need to finish wrapping. EDIT: ignore the pizza...

Advice needed on a buffer tree for my lathe

Its worth having a look here Polishing Kits | Polishing Mops | Polishing Shop | Polishing Kit I do a fair bit of polishing on the lathe and bought all my stuff from there. I use one of these Mop Taper 10mm Shaft | The Polishing Shop in a drill chuck (held in with a drawbar). Mainly polish...

sharpening / ProEdge / Trizact question

Another thing to look out on the pro edge is wear on the back plate (or platen as Sorby call it). This can cause the grind on wider chisels and plane irons to be slightly uneven.

    Axminster Chuck info

As mentioned, looks very much like a Super Precision. A good chuck. The jaws fitted are C jaws (looks like you have a second set on the right hand side). The ones on the left look like wood plate jaws, I cant see the ones behind the chuck properly. If you can get a backplate from Beaufort...

    Stanley 71

As triton said. Theres a few other situations where it becomes necessary. For example, using the tool (along with the tiny fence) to groove the edge of a board. As a substitute for a plough plane. Using a plough plane is much nicer/easier but the router can do it.

    Banjo cam won't tighten

Thanks for the replies everyone. The black coating isn't a paint coat or anything like that. I'm not a metal or paint expert, its probably just the surface of the metal but there is a patch that is shiny/silver colour. I cleaned it with some degreaser and it made the rag go black but there was...

    2021 Secret Santa.

I underestimated the amount of effort it takes to organise this, especially when people go awol. Don't think I've said it yet (I should have) but 'Thank you Phil for going to all this effort' (y)

    Banjo cam won't tighten

Thanks mate. I did have a go adjusting the bolt yesterday but the cam kept springing loose. Admittedly, I was cold and hungry so it was a half arsed attempt at sorting it. I'll have a proper go later.

    Flat bottomed 20mm dia holes.

I was going to suggest the same as Hornbeam, or a slight alternative make up a jig for a bearing guided cutter like this Not sure if that'd be feasible though as I know those connectors can be pretty small.

    Banjo cam won't tighten

Oops..bit stupid not mentioning the lathe model  Its a KS Midi 350, its the same as the Axminster Trade 350 (AT 350?). https://hopewoodturning.co.uk/lathes/ks-lathes/midi-lathe-fu-350/114/ks-midi-fu-350-woodturning-lathe?c=34 I'll get some photos tomorrow, I'm just off out for a bike ride.

    Banjo cam won't tighten

I noticed today the cam on my lathe won't tighten. Well, it does tighten but it works its way loose instantly. I thought it might be a case of just adjusting the cam bolt, but that just changes the position (on an imaginary clock face) of the lever when the cam is fully tightened. It springs...

S.A.D hitting me early this year

Before I got overshoes, at one point I did snip down a couple of sandwich bags to put over my socks:LOL: Of course, they were hidden inside my shoes so only I knew the ridiculousness of my predicament. Certainly kept my toes from freezing though. Iirc, I saw it on GCN. It certainly wasn't my...

    Paul Sellers Router Plane

Without bragging, earlier this year I had one of those 'lucky deals'. A friend had notified of a neighbour selling some tools for a friend's wife. I went with the intention of just getting some turning tools (I already knew there was an almost new 32mm Sorby Roughing gouge there. which are about...

    Paul Sellers Router Plane

I occasionally read Paul Sellers blog and found this pretty interesting. https://paulsellers.com/2021/10/the-best-router-plane-is-born/ Curiosity got the better of me, so I signed up to the woodworking masterclass to read the full instructions and see some videos. Theres nothing radically new...
