    Window Board Secret Fixing

I usually use expanding foam, as Phil said. Get it all the packing done before hand so its level and straight, foam it and weight it down. Speaking of skirting, I fitted some in a house in about 2002. Went back a few years later to do an extension, which required removing some of the skirting. I...

    Trend MFT jig

Peter Millard has a good video showing 3 jigs in use (Parf, Trend and another). Worth watching. 1.As long as your subsequent holes are referenced from the previous set using the jig and the plastic dogs. 2. Guide bush needs to be centre and a good fit in the template.

    Swan neck hollower

When I had a lathe, I usually made handles from Ash..because I had a load of it. Sorby use ash. Hamlet, Axminster, etc are usually beech. I'd use the beech and save the oak for on the lathe. Carbide tips https://ukwoodcraftandcarbidechisels.co.uk/replacementcarbidecutters.html

    Random orbital sander vibration shortlist

I've got a 6432 and a festool ets ec 150. The de Walt has a fair bit of vibration, the festool has practically none..but it was 5 times more expensive. I do a lot of sanding every day, that's the only reason I got the Festool. Before that, the De Walt did fine and just did as Sideways said...

Axminster Bedrock no.5 jack plane review

There's still a load of backlash imo. Not much different to my other planes (Stanley/records). the lever cap stopped creeping after the bedrock screws were tightened to be fair. Agreed

Axminster Bedrock no.5 jack plane review

Honestly don't know. I recall reading that the Rider planes (that don't seem to be available now) were made in India. I think information on the workshop range is a bit scarce at the moment.

    Sanding Sealer Question

Terry used to post here, but I don't think he's be on for a while. I recall he was pretty helpful when I had a sanding sealer issue with a turned item (which was also walnut, but the issue was different). After that, I always oil (usually some type of hard wax) on anything walnut. As for...

    Table mounting Makita Router

Finally got house move sorted so I'll be to get new workspace sorted soon. I'll be making a new router table but I'm unsure of the best way to mount my Makita router (2301). All my previous table mounted routers were Trends with pre drilled plates. I've got a 10mm alu undrilled plate ready to...

    Makita Plunge Base

I've got a Makita RT070 and a Katsu, fixed base only for both. Decided to get a plunge base and thought I'd go for the Makita. Both routers look pretty much the same but thought I'd check if anyone knew if there is any compatibility issues with the Katsu and the Makita base. thanks

Secret Santa 2024 (under new management)

Well done Stig for organising this. I regret not joining again (last time was 2021..time flies), won't go into reasons as it'll sound like a cop out. I'll try next year in the slim chance of getting a paper bird in a jar lol (I commented on the 2021 thread, that was a lovely present). Looking...

    Which vape?

I quit after 20 years in 2010 and found it relatively easy. I think I'd really got to the point where the enjoyment had gone. The first cig after waking up, which used to be bliss, had turned into making feel nauseous. From what I remember, I think used easily available nicotine mint lozenges...
