    Garage door design

Does the RHS of the diagram represent the face of the door? Struggling to get my head round the geometry, does this work with a recessed panel or just the flush panel? Also how would you make that cut?

    Garage door design

I know, I really am disappointed but I don't see what I can do. Hopefully it doesn't sap the fun out of the process. I'm going to dress it up with some neat looking trim, I've been following Finish Carpentry TV on youtube lately and I fancy applying what I've learned from that here. I'm thinking...

    Garage door design

Will thanks for the tip, seems obvious to check for coplanar now but there's no way that would have occurred to me! The original plan was to fix the frame then remove and fit the door on the ground but after realising how much shimming and fine adjustment there is I'm going to fix the frame...

    Garage door design

I'll price up for Sapele and Douglas Fir and I'll make a decision once I've got that info thanks for the break down Yeah I was going to have the panels fitting in a housing, I'm actually going to run a housing top to bottom of the stiles, this is for a few reasons. A) it just means I set up the...

    Garage door design

Oh crucially, how should I get the windows in? M&T each part of the lattice into the door frame or prefab a self-contained window lattice and seat it down into the door frame via a housing? I feel like the latter would be significantly easier, but I'm unsure what the best practice here is!

    Garage door design

Is that because you prefer it to work or for a stable final product? I recently made a whiskey presentation box with Sapele and even on something as small as that I was picking pink dust out of every orifice for the next week! But if you feel it is more stable than douglas fir/cedar I'd...

    Garage door design

Hi Doug thanks for the reply - I was starting to feel like I'd said something offensive as nobody wanted to touch it! I'd seen accoya but I've ruled it out on price. At present I'm torn between cedar and Douglas fir. The raised panel door design doesn't lend itself to a diagonal cross bracing...

    Garage door design

So I'm looking to make a side hinged garage door. Due to the slope of my drive, it is going to be tight, but if I build a slightly thicker frame this should be possible. Mum has to sign off on this one! The design she likes is found here: https://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/cat ... edar/g/230...

    Which router

The makita one can be dialled in so if you need to just nudge a cut over by a few mm the fence has a scale that'll tell you how far to move and fine adjustment. If it's not cast aluminium it certainly feels similar: more robust than the pressed units that I've received with mid-market routers

Anyone here got a cooksley (or another old) morticer?

I've read the photo posting thread but I'm not having much luck. But I do have a picture The 3/8" bolt I tried doesn't even fit in the hole. As a sanity check, this 3/8" bolt was measured on the micrometer - weirdly it measured 0.385". Maybe it's not 3/8 after all.

Anyone here got a cooksley (or another old) morticer?

Hi andy, with the vernier calliper, it's 9.34mm I can take a separate reading with Imperial micrometer if required?

    Which router

Sounds like a well considered strategy Might I suggest a good hand held metal detector for the pallets? For chisels, that's the kind of thing where you can get more for less. I quite like my Stanley 5001 bevel edge chisels I picked up on ebay for maybe £20 a while back. The flip side to this...

Anyone here got a cooksley (or another old) morticer?

Thanks guys, I take it the grub screw method is conventional then? My augers happen to have a flat edge for accepting the screw anyway. Merlin, my set up looks very similar to yours, is it possible that the Cooksley model I have was some kind of relation to yours? Wallace, I'm not really in a...

    Which router

I might be able to help you here too. Every time I've tried to save by buying an off-brand or cheaper quality unit, I've ended up spending more. For me, woodworking is a hobby that pays for itself. Sort of. My advice would be not to scrimp. I battled on with a plywood and circular saw track saw...

    Which router

What a coincidence. My new Makita tracksaw and router arrived this week. I chose the makita rp2301 over the dewalt because of the track. You see, for £30 you can buy an adapter that'll let you run your router parallel to your track, I thought this would be useful for housings and rebates, I do a...

Anyone here got a cooksley (or another old) morticer?

I have an old Cooklsey morticer To attach the drill bit, instead of a chuck there is a set screw. This appears to be a bolt cut in half and then a phillips slot hacksawn into the end. I have no reason to believe that it once had a chuck from looking at it, but I do think the particular bolt in...

New Meddings owner. If I've learnt one single thing...

Wow what a cracker, very happy for you mate and you're right it's all about patience I think I might have a bit of an addiction for these old drills and I fear I might end up with 10 or so at some point! I recently acquired a Fobco Star for £85 while all others around it on eBay were going for...

    Roll Cab Build

Industrial baking trays is a shout, I thought about making a box section "jig" so to speak and clamping the drawer components round that for welding to avoid warp and get the 90 degrees all round In my head the drawer base actually folds round with a tab on all 4 sides - I'll make a sheet metal...

    Roll Cab Build

So I think I figured the notifications Steve I think I'll do a youtube video on it. I'm trying to film my projects but so far I've been too lazy Mike thanks for your link, how do those stand up? I need to build a workbench/assembly table/outfeed table combo which takes my Wadkin AGS and can be...

    Roll Cab Build

Hi Sorry for not replying to these, I am still learning this forum and haven't found a way to get notified when I've been replied to Sunnybob in my original post I do actually have the exact same unit as you and I've had it a while too, don't get me wrong its okay but it's not wide enough like...
