A red Lens Rail Lantern, yes it is bent, very rusty and missing a bit. The tank and burner, but fear not. I have a spare. Caustic soda had the paint removed, citric acid did for the rust. A wash off and a dry and we have the paint going on. Yes I left the dent in...

    Rust Remover--'Jenolite'

The modern stuff is rubbish. Wire brush in a angle grinder/ bench grinder. Citric acid. Electrolysis. They are the better way to remove rust from tools. At Men In Sheds we get tons of old rusty tools and they clean up well.

    Marples No2200 square restoration questions

It does get used a lot when laying out kit car chassies rails. I made a Kit Lotus 7 a few years ago. We laid down a set of four 8 x 4 plywood sheets. Drew out the lay out. So we could place the chassis box sections. So we could work out where the engine and gear box mounts are to be fitted.

    Marples No2200 square restoration questions

I have done a few squares like the OP. If the blade is pitted or delaminating it is nowt but scrap. This one was bad. But the blade was good, ok rusty but sound. Do not dismantle, as getting back square is a long and difficult task. Seal the brass and wood with tape and cling film...
