    Slipstone revival?

I boil the ones I get in water and Ferry liquid. I place the stones on blocks, add water and Ferry until they are covered and slowly bring the boil. This washes the oil and crud out. I then let them dry out in a warm dry place. Then steep them in a light oil. Last time I used Duck oil. At Men...

    where to sell engineering'y tools/things?

Avoide the tool shop in stallbridge, they will not give you a fair price. Take an example to The Shambles in Devizes, to show the man, he will be honest with you. I speak from experience.

Clean the cracks well. Grind or file a chamfer onto the edges. Then braze it it. You can weld it, but that way can lead to much more fun. Pre-heating, welding and cooling. Braze will give it the strength you need. Done 2 in the past.

Desperate to find steel wire that isnt galvanised/stainless

Put the anodes into the solution. More the better, leaving 25mm to 50mm above the level top. Then link them together with normal copper wire.

Replacing Band Saw Tyres: Do I need adhesive?

If the new tyres are a push fit over the wheel yes. But the supplier. OE or after market should advise. But that is mainly on the much older machines. Modern tyres are a stretch fit over and will not need glue. The tyres are there to give a bit of cushioning as well as grip to the blade. When...

    Angle grinder..which size discs?

You can uses a 115mm (4.5") on a 5" as it fits inside the guard. But a 5" will not fit a 115mm, with out removing the guard. That way leads to madness. I uses 4.5 grinders as they are the most common size local to be.

Casting staddle stones, anyone tried it?

I have done a few in my time. Using decent timber make a frame 3" bigger all round than the top you aim to cast. If using an original saddle cap, fix a handle to it. This will allow you to lift it into the mould and tap free. Support the stone in the casting box and pack hard round it soft...
