    Experiences/ideas please - Cable-less house vac cleaners

The hand held Dysons are brilliant for what they are, however you do need a reasonably clean house to start with. Our kitchen floor seems to be a magnet for shavings, bits of hay, horse hair etc. which the Dyson couldn’t cope with - it would jam more than it would vacuum. I have gone back...

    Help with restoration

I am sure that someone will shoot me for saying so, but here goes anyway. Sadly brown furniture is now ridiculously cheap in sale rooms as it is no longer fashionable. To that end, why not use your current piece as an experimental piece to work out what works and what doesn’t. Don’t worry too...

    Marks through grain of wood

Agree with the above - if it’s any consolation ash is so varied that only you will notice, but if you are anything like me it will annoy you each time you look at it!

use the bleeding mitre saw hold down clamps.... GORE ALERT

Regarding small bits on a mitre saw, what is the safest way to do it? Zero clearance fence and hold downs or a different tool altogether?

    Planer/Thicknesser decisions.

I went for a spiral head to avoid the faff of setting blades. I have a friend who has a traditional machine and even after 30 years of practice it still takes him a couple of hours and a lot of swearing. I have had mine for 2 years and not had to change them; it gives a better finish than his...

    First Project: Mounting Block

The block looks lovely. :) As a horsey person I might want the holes filling in - if a horse has an opportunity to drum up a vets bill it will! Also, how slippery will it be to stand on when it is wet?

    Finishing Ash

I use Osmo raw followed by a coat of osmo satin which I find maintains the original colour. Ash varies tremendously between very dark and white, so you might want to experiment a bit. I sometimes use two coats of raw I want to even out the colour.

    White furniture in Sketchup

Has anyone got any tips for making painted white furniture look realistic in sketchup? I have had some really good results using wood colouring but white looks awful! Thanks

    Bandsaw Advice

I thought it was all their own - at least that’s what the guy at the Record Power show led me to believe. They own the tooling and have it made for them in China
