Bandsaw blade guide upgrade - generic?

The lower wheel should to be co-planar for belt alignment, though to check that one needs to have faced wheels. I've mentioned the tolerance needed before for my 24" saw to check that, but haven't a clue what that is for a smaller machine, the scribing beam would tell all. It would also show the...

Bandsaw blade guide upgrade - generic?

Not sure why you'd find argument there, but matching crowns for me please!

I tried out a Lie Nielsen hand plane…wow!!

But seemingly very difficult for many to get a modern plane to work, like a well working vintage! The cost being the reason why most won't hone their cap iron at least 50deg or more. Those straight shavings are important if you wished to plane with the grain in rows, as per Charlesworth's hand...

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

I guess having the right machine for the job, might be seen as OTT?... That Grizzly 17" saw, being much much stouter than anything of that size whats ever been marketed here, with a chassis made from 4.5mm thick steel! so one would need jump to the stouter Italian flavour of 20" or something...

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

Not if you've got a Woodmaster CT, and a saw up to tensioning it! *other carbide tipped blades are available Some of John Teneyck's post's (his pics aren't held hostage by Creekers paywall) https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?299145-Slicing-Veneer-with-the-Amazing-Woodmaster-CT...

    Bench Grinder Advice please

I suggest looking for an 8" regular grinder, one with a fairly beefy motor, that'd be likely more evident on the 6" ones, where the motors can be undersized looking, but probably the case with the 8" versions too. If you can one used, with good amount of the wheels for cheap, then that's what...

    Which bandsaw as an upgrade?

Something large with a flange mounted motor for adjustability/alignment purposes narrows it down to few, those with solid cast iron wheels, seemingly narrows it further, That's your answer for a no compromise result of a guaranteed smooth running, vibration free machine. Just make sure the...

    decent hand plane wanted /recommendations

I'll bet anyone who's got both, what's not tucked away inside a Tetris puzzle box... has picked up their plastic handled plane, and tore the $hite out of the work with it, before copping on it was the wrong plane they picked up! 😡😅 Still wouldn't swap the tote out for a Veritas wrist breaker...

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

Not seen it done, nor sure if it would be feesable, but perhaps worth thinking of having a narrow solid hefty laminated top for planing, and using the other half the other side of the bench for the multi function table.. i.e router table or for means where you don't wish to scratch the top up...

    Bandsaw Blade Guide theory!

The lower wheel ain't as tricky since it's rigid, thus not needing a blade installed, and made easier by advancing the scraper in a pivoting fashion, using the folded lip of the chassis. Advancement of the cutter done easily with little taps, of some sort of wedge, turned out the old mortise...

    Bandsaw Blade Guide theory!

A true co-planar adjustment now And accurate wheel alignment thereafter, don't pinch the shaft when doing adjustments, I've wrote a bit more on that elsewhere, basically a north or a south needs loosening, in order to adjust the east or west jacking screws. Motor pulley depth checked, new...

    Bandsaw Blade Guide theory!

I've since made some changes to that alignment method, dressed the face of the wheels until the scribing beam couldn't pick up an error, in regards to alignment, turns out a 0.5mm discrepancy of the wheels, depending on where the beam were placed on the wheel, could mean anything up to 4mm on...

    Hand Tool Wall Cabinet

I'm glad I didn't make one so far, as I wished to do the same...until I seen a utoober drop a plane (IIRC) on the floor, he has ductile iron planes and mats, so came away unscathed for the most part. That's a true glimpse of the real world there, being focused on something else whilst doing...

    Felder Service UK - Dreadful

Yea, but the better Felder bandsaws come from Novellara, wot's likely in a not so tight container.. so it's probably about right? :D Well at least I think that's the case, should Felder still be re-badging the ACM saws for their premium line, or if it's just the 700 or 740 series and up...

anyone had success with homeade bandsaw tyres?

My upper wheel had about 0.5mm discrepancy, the thickness of my Shinwa rule, and the lower wheel about half that. If you've got solid wheels, then you could rest a file on them, Custom made file handle what should be of thicker stock than shown, thus impossible to flip upside down DAMHIK...

anyone had success with homeade bandsaw tyres?

I had another revisit regarding dressing my tires, as I was to find out that there's no such thing as a good performing bandsaw which actually has a flat profile on the tires. Having so is a recipe for compressing set, should one try a mere test run (no cutting involved) with the blade tracked...

    decent hand plane wanted /recommendations

Are the Luban?...or whatever they're called, from Dictum, made of ductile iron, which presumably have the same tote as the vintage planes. I wouldn't consider it a decent plane without that, i.e something from this day and age, that is, and no better than the old ones, which need care. Ductile...

    What be this Timber?

Good excuse to sort yer cap iron out, so you can take straight shavings and treat all timbers the same as you see in any Charlesworth video, No tricks required, as the timber becomes hassle free thereafter. Charlesworth provides the basics of using a plane, with no bad habits, no question the...
