    Bandsaw upgrade

I've been doing some more digging, and seemingly there's no get it running in an hour Centauro CO machine. What I mean is the older CO machines don't feature the grooved wheels, like the newer ones. (at least some of which featuring mitre slot) as it seems many aren't too keen on dressing...

    Making a Lie-Nielsen Plane (video)

I thought this was going to be a repeat, but made for some great watching. They don't hang about, that's for sure. I've read Maine being a place slightly more old fashioned, concerning the red tape and whatnot. and would guess with all that molten iron and bronze... everybody has their head...

    Big Chisel!

Looks kinda like those 18 century chisels, like what David makes. IIRC ones what's parallel in width are from later on It's likely mentioned on this forum somewhere. Hopefully you can see them, if not here's the link. https://ofhandmaking.com/things-made/

    Help buying table saw

I don't think the grub screw is the issue, as it's not very loose to adjust. I'm missing a bolt on the rail, so that might be the issue, the mounting pad between table apron and rail slides freely, perhaps it needs a shim, as it likely made the rail more problematic, since there's no other...

    Help buying table saw

Not many folks suggesting true sliders, (carriage not beside, but right against the blade) what's supposedly much better. That's the only reason to go for something Far Eastern. (bearing in mind they likely won't be as hefty, and wouldn't be surprised if there was compromises) Doesn't seem...

    BS400 bandsaw blows fuses regularly

I've often read of "tricks" regarding resistance sorting this.... Those kinda things need consideration and more observation obviously. There's lots of stuff mentioned about that, and I'm certainly not the person to mention them, bar a little snippet I've read about finding a "stronger" 13a...

    Help buying table saw

Just asking for fun really, as I've no intention on getting another saw, but found these pics of what might be possibly affordable, and around Sedgwick money, though I did see Sedgewicks go for around 500 before, but not since. Obviously the SCM machines are another league altogether, regarding...

    Help buying table saw

I'm in the process of slowly sorting my 275DS, I have a 3phase version running from VFD. What may be the most annoying thing about it is the fence. It may come loose all of a sudden, and I haven't got to the bottom of that. Some others have mentioned this also. Another thing about the fence is...

Heads Up - Big Wadkin bandsaw for sale!

Good to hear from a users perspective, I see New Yorkshire workshop on YT, has something quite similar, though I'm not familiar with much else apart from the Italian machines. Possibly a random one, but worth noting if the same, but on some of the CE certified Italian machines, the tilt is...

Heads Up - Big Wadkin bandsaw for sale!

By comparison, the first ilk of Centauro CO series seems readily adjustable, though not sure when they changed that, as google isn't the best these days. So bad, infact that I'm not even able to find a picture from the back of a CO 500 from this era. The older CO 600 So you'll have to make do...

Heads Up - Big Wadkin bandsaw for sale!

Not bad price for 550, provided that 3 phase motor is a dual voltage one, so it can run on 240v with a VFD, see 240v stamped on the motor nameplate, then you know Could also mention it should be either 2 or 4 pole, i.e running at normal RPM's ala 1740 or 3000 (ish)... seeing as some Wadkin's are...

Wanted 14” Bandsaw / pro quality heavy duty bandsaw wanted

I'd suggest fleabay or gumtree to find a bargain. Since you mention resawing + guitars, one might get the impression of acoustics, so it might be worth looking into having a carbide blade. That choice is up to you, take a look at John Teneyck's posts, and once again worth noting that Grizzly...

Wanted 14” Bandsaw / pro quality heavy duty bandsaw wanted

No-one makes a pro level 14" saw, for good reason, the blades for resawing wouldn't like to bend around 14" wheels. Why limit yourself to that small of a wheel size? Here's some models which may be of interest, though a slight bit of emphasis on something larger than the 400mm wheel sizes...

    Acme thread? New Arbor?

I was under the impression most newer saws, than my early later model Startrite 275 had a left hand thread arbor nut. Not sure if Startrite changed this, but spares are available should they have done so, which I can only guess would still have the same arbor size, and take the same size blade.

    Acme thread? New Arbor?

It appears you might be able to get one cheaply, i.e unsure if Charnwood ones might work... https://charnwood.net/product/blade-locking-nut-for-laguna-table-saws/ Or perhaps Draper, SIP, or other big names might have spares.?

Can I do this on a drill press?

I've got a few old 4" angle grinders wot let the magic smoke out of, seems possibly a good application to use to shaft from... I was thinking they might be worth holding onto for a spindle sander before. Would need check if some possible nut adapter might be the ticket... I believe a common...

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

There's a lot to be said about a long, i.e 8 foot floating top, slim fire door etc... which can be stored upright. Make some nice trestles to support it, preferably something which allows for strechers, should the top sag, then a chok under that would sort it. The length of the longer top being...

    Clifton Number 3 Plane Blade

It appears like those scratches are from suspended very course grit. Have you since got an idea of what the surface is like?

    Semi-permanent workbench project....

Or two benches which lock together.. It sounds for a very good option to me, nice foot stool saw horses to match too. Don't forget to install a sliding deadman! Perhaps the height might be the dealbreaker, but where there's a will... Introducing the Jack bench Though not sure how low it can go...

Bandsaw blade guide upgrade - generic?

What we're seeing there is anticlastic curvature, a trick of the eye, as the blade needs feel that crown, whether one can see it or not. Cooks sawmill snippet to explain... I spent ages with that notion of flat tires being the spec, and documented dressing my tires with a flat profile in...
