DIY Burnisher for sharpening a Card Scraper

That's the way I'm doing it straight off the file, after using that lovely massive edge up from grinding the saw plate to the right shape. Straight off the single cut file doesn't have the same edge life though, or should I say, you'll get more done with the larger burr from the bench grinder...

    How to make a round-bottomed, round-ended groove - without a router

The ends need drilling if it's going to be in any way not a slog, unless you can carve it out with whatever chisel(s) you need, should it be possible with some regular chisels, poundshop job and they need grinding. I'd like to see this if someone has a link. You need to modify a bit IMO if not...

It's "timestamped" for convenience Jacob! Sorry it's not in this case actually, so you will have to skip to where I've screenshot it.

I suppose it's horses for courses. Here's Peter's methodology for his green work, that chamfer is put there and the stock is allowed to dry for at least a month beforehand. One thing I like about his videos is the workholding before things are flat enough to lay on the bench.

Cosman is a bit hard to pigeonhole, On one hand it's straight off the saw for his DT's, no pairing walls kinda thing, Good marketing if you're selling saws, and honest precise work So were on a good level there regarding skill Then there's the planing, with a cap iron which is only half...

    Waterstone sharpening station

Not that I'm used to waterstones, but Frank's box looks pretty impressive, although I'd want a fail safe for my needs. Just posting for fun really.

@D_W Some journeyman should go visit George sometime, seems a wealth of information one could even glean from looking around the place. @Jacob maybe I'll try finding something which will suit.

Should be a video of that somewhere from rough prep to ready, which doesn't have too many bad habits that is a short watch?

That's all well and good, I wouldn't want to do this for many reasons Even for small stuff difficult to film even, I'd sooner cut to the chase rather than film the rest. We can't all be like George, be interesting to know what he would say would be the most challenging aspect of the craft...

But yet you won't find a video somewhere that's any good to compare? I've likely seen near everything what you can see on youtube, and see a lot of bad practice and other strange things. Charlesworth's principals regarding flat surfaces, and the importance of not blasting off the perimeter...

    Please teach me about planes

Cosman has been doing this for a few years, a partially prepared setup but most of the stuff (what's not a comercial) is still on the fly, I'd personally prefer it applied to a project, as I see some slight neglect compared to earlier videos in order to make the video. Might as well show your...

    Please teach me about planes

I'm still in the dark ages, but did buy a samsung digital "selfie" camera with a large touch screen for 50/£40 and it makes videos upto 20 mins, plus my missus has the same although she's upgraded to the phones. It's old now, needs to be kept plugged in recording, and I find 16mp will do the job...

Surely these folks are not so far behind, that you can't pick and mix at least some tips or contribute suggestions from the collection of youtubers...

Once again I'm saying this is a golden age for learning, and we are likely in the midst of the evolution of these type forums, and maybe ever increasingly being propelled fporwards by the speculators speculation regarding the little details i.e you can put your money where your mouth is :) Not...
