    Band saw levelling

Yours has small sheet metal wheels, and was likely fabricated by knowledgeable and observant folk. Most machines in that class today, can seemingly be quite a bit trickier to level, which is apparent if watching someone feeding something long or heavy enough, is usually a good way of spotting...

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

Surely if I were a bit more partial to using math, or more knowledgable about using the dividers, I could have worked out the exact shape. I did try a few things, but didn't get far with that. Perhaps I should have paid more attention to George's video, and I could have drawn if differently. I...

    Band saw levelling

What do you wish to see, I have quite a collection of bandsaw stuff. Though I read you've said earlier you ain't got the time for 5 min videos, Bit difficult to convey everything in 5 mins really. It could involve engineering bodgery, some simple alignment stuff or damaged wheel bores.... which...

    Band saw levelling

It's for a bandsaw which won't play nice. I try and fix things if I can, seen plenty of bandsaws of all types which have questionable design elements, and damage caused by such neglect.

The same reason New Yorkshire workshop has, I imagine. Unless you can give me a better reason:) I suppose it also ties into what you're saying, and perhaps may irk some folk, but IMO one needs to find excuses for effort. Mine is pleasing workshop vibes that don't upset me, as I'm kinda OCD...

    Diamond Sharpening stone

@D_W This one linked earlier looks a bit different than either the cross patterned variety aswell as the plastic red/blue/yellow ones and also my Dia-sharp fancy one. Seems like for 50 squid, they should be as good or better than the card ones going for 2 or 3 pounds each. Suppose I wouldn't be...

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

In my eyes, that traditional shape of both looks a bit odd to me, but I've never used a woodie to realise why they are so. I've got no say about this really. I get what your saying though, I can relate to the small details. Seen a good video of George Walker regarding the doric principals or...

    Band saw levelling

Best way I've found, could use tape instead of magnets if using string, Search for some builders line with pins, in the poundshop or whatever, its woven rather than twisted, much better than the latter which unravels/wide spots. Fishing line is better, but this line makes things easier. This is...

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

@D_W Perhaps the financial rewards might not be there, I could easily see someone get at least half of the sub count that the gurus have. Take some decent UK channels, perhaps New Yorkshire workshop Not looked at his social blade stats, there ya go, as expected Seems profitable for one to do it...

Surely someone who's got some observational skills and who's able to do it on their own, would make a few bob for themselves.

    Diamond Sharpening stone

Really, I would'a thought there would have been a norm established by now, regarding that. The only thing cheaper I've seen, was the ones with ecliptical slots stamped into them with coloured plastic bases, cannot recall if the grit came loose, they were pants.

Depends what you call being a maker I suppose, I'm curious if you were seeking start to finish projects, by hand tool woodworking only in candlelight like Mr Chickadee or someone who turns the lights on like say KillenWOOD or perhaps Engel's coach shop. Most of my subscribed channels I'd regard...

    Diamond Sharpening stone

I find the 3 or 400 grit to be quite speedy, but beyond that grit I agree. I still use them though, have a pair of those card types 300 and 1000, and a fancy one for after which is a bit slow I get the impression the grid doesn't help matters regarding nicks, so I go very easy on the 1000...

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

Didn't think this would work, what a super easy way to do it. A good lot of these folk might suit, but I see no one stop shop for information on practically anything. Phil Lowe's videos .. the art of woodworking, is a good introduction Plenty of other channels I drop in on, i.e Highland...

    A lightbulb moment, but...

Can't say I've noticed high pitched noise coming from my lamp. Just to be clear, this is the type(ish) of bulb I have been using. I haven't happened across cheap versions of these bulbs with the plastic (necks?) and think mine is also Phillips. It's used in one of those angle poise lamps with...

    Chisels, new or old

Similar to my Stanley's I suggest if buying either, give them wide ones a twist before going out of the shop. Incidentally is there an easy fix for this, it's a mild annoyance for me, but for someone in a rush maybe a lot more. I tried lightly piening the striking caps, with no luck. At a...

    Chisels, new or old

+1 and converting to a scraper from time to time. I've got some stubby ones for this purpose, which never seemed to take a decent edge, the only modern chisels I've seen which is so. And for when metal is involved, a converted screwdriver is a must have have also.

    Chisels, new or old

Both seem overly pricey to me. I'd be more interested in the shape of them for the job. I use some run of the mill modern Stanley's for paring, I find the steel decent for that, but the translucent plastic handles can become loose on them, which might be of annoyance to some, doesn't seem like...

    Animal glues

Pity that episode of benchtalk 101 was taken down.:(:(:( Perhaps asking one of the lads to see if you can get it for yourself. It was the best info on the subject I've ever seen, by a longshot. I'd like to watch it again, but no need to use the stuff for a long time. I suggest strictly asking...

    Smoothing plane

Lots of other reasons for using a hand plane other than smoothing, which is interconnected with the practically of them, so much the opposite case of that idea you have above. Having a surface planer/thicknesser simply doesn't suit me yet for many reasons. I'd sooner get decent extraction and a...
