SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Thanks, good points well made. I'm not really mad about the advertising, as much as the decades long lack of consideration of the fact that this is a life-saving technology that should be used as a pawn in corporate games of greed and power. The tagline about safety first was just unacceptable...

Sorry, their patent is expiring, not expired. I can't edit.

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

OK, my wording was slack, 'they' (SawStop's Parent company) leased the technology to Festool, a company they owned. Does it change my point at all? I feel like you're arguing technicalities while ignoring the point: SawStop do not prioritise our safety above all other things. They claimed and...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Can you point them out? Because I know there are some arguments against this, but they have been refuted elsewhere (including on here). I've read this thread and just because some others have different opinions, doesn't mean I should just accept them If you have some actual, provable facts...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

I got this email and it really triggered me. "Your safety is our top priority" - What a load of b0llocks! If it were anywhere near their top concern, we'd have had it at an affordable price from them or from Bosch's version of it. But SawStop shut that down on patent infringement grounds...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

No, in the end I went with DeWalt DWE7485-GB (240v). It was about £450. It was more the reviews than the price, but I think I'd have been happy with either. I think it was the rack and pinion fence that edged it (it's nice). Overall a well thought out and executed bit of kit. I'm impressed...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

That kind of swayed it. Went for the dewalt 7845. Light and accurate. Not too pricey.£600 with 3 Freud blades. Thanks for all the help, guys!

The GTS10xc? @johnnyb ? Are the issues fixable? I like the sliding rail.

I’ve been thinking a lot about that last sentence…. Is the difference between the two quite noticeable?

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

That’s much more reasonable, but it’s 110v and my workshop is 240v. I’m not sure about converters, but I’ll ask my dad, see if cheap ones are viable. Guessing not!

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

This is basically where I'm at right now... :) I've completed Fleabay, Facebook-MarkupPlace, Shamazon, all the usualy tool suppliers and the 7492 is now £1190 in the only stockist. I can get the Mak 2704, but when you're spending this much, you want the one you want. Takes the 'ohh shiny' off...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

Cheers mate! I'm in Boro (NW), so a bit of a trek. Appreciate the offer, though! I'm fairly sold on the Dewalt, despite being a bit of Makita fanboy for the battery compatibility (dammit, just wish they'd standardise that crap). If they had one in stock, it'd be on the way already. I won't...

£550... *sigh* That's something we're getting used to here, but man it sucks. That's an interesting idea, cheers.

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

My problem is floor space, it needs to be able to be picked up and put on my workbench (which is a 3rd of my floor space). I can lift anything up to about 50kgs (my band saw is 58 and I don't want to move that again!). I can store the jobsite/bench saws under the end of my bench, on their side...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

Yea, I wish I were in that category. For me, affordable means "can I buy this and still eat?" This is just a hobby, but I'd like it to be a fall-back career. I've read a lot about the history of sawstop (I was really pissed off I couldn't get one and went looking for an explanation) and...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

I really love Makita stuff, but last night, and on the basis of the 'better fence' I tried to pull the trigger on the Dewalt 7492, but it's out of stock everywhere (unless you're willing to pay scalping prices). RRP is around £750 in the UK, but it's going for closer to £900 right now.

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

I'm always keen to hear other viewpoints. but you should know, I'm not naive or cynical, I'm just disappointed. And I can see that Sawstop are great tool, if you can afford them (big IF), I can't. Sawstop have made their money back now. No way they haven't. £50 per part (sold at a...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

turns out the Kity products were taken over by Scheppach, which turned into the Scheppach Precisa 2.0. Machineatlas reviews said the Kity were overpriced in the second hand market (which seems to be the case at ~£700). Definitely food for thought, though, thanks!
