Quote of the day from Ally Pally!!!

I thought the best one liner came from that lady selling the sewing kits, in a sort of espanic / russian type hard to exactly identify accent. "where is your friend I like him very much?" (waka that is) at that point we all left quickly. Top day out enjoyed meeting all the gang. Hope to see...

Alf, what a roques gallery you have assembled there. My god what an ugly bunch. Please forgive me if I don't print the pictures out for identification purposes. If I got lost someone might think I was related and they may send me to some sort of half way house. I have no doubt that if...

    Ally Pally

I hope I can make it on Saturday. (depends largely on how much I have to drink on Friday night. ) What say we all wear a carnation to identify ourselves to forum gang members? I would like to have a look at the Woodrat stall, also the router demo's. Oh, and the pie stall where I will...

    Sand blasting wood

Pipe makers - (that is smoking pipes) often sandblast a briar pipe that has imperfections. Different effects can be achieved depending on how aggressive the approach. I think Dunhill used to do a sandblast called "shilling" as the grain in the briar resembled rings like a stack of shillings...

    Incra vs Dovetail Jig

Say Roger, is it possible to use a rat on the side of a bench? I do not have any wall space left in my workshop :( and was thinking it might be possible to mount the rat to my workbench when required - a sort of portable solution. what do you or other ratters think about this idea? Esc.

    Attention all WoodRatters!

Quick question - what are the merits or possibilities of mounting a rat on the side of a substantial bench. I am wondering if this could be a more flexible solution to permanent wall mounting. Esc.

    Incra vs Dovetail Jig

Welcome Marco, I like your first question; Rat or router table? specialised jigs or multi-purpose which is best? Cheers, Esc.

    Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Hello there Dave, I have one or two dewalt hand tools and there are impressive. However my chop saw is the makita and it is an excellent machine. Quiet small, but very solid and accurate. I would give the makita range a look before finally reaching a decision. Good luck and happy sawing. Esc.

    bench top planer sizes etc

I know it may be a silly thought but have you thought about some flaps? I am thinking of fitting some small window size flaps into the side of my shed to enable longer pieces of timber to be fed through. It would be fairly easy to install some additional support if need be. you can't...

    A series of bandsaw questions

At long last yesterday morning with the help of three mates my new bandsaw was manhandled up the drive and into my workshop. (Axminister Plus SBW4300WL) I spent all yesterday afternoon setting the beast up and I'm feeling very happy with my new purchase, despite the issues below which I know...
