Pipe makers - (that is smoking pipes) often sandblast a briar pipe that has imperfections. Different effects can be achieved depending on how aggressive the approach. I think Dunhill used to do a sandblast called "shilling" as the grain in the briar resembled rings like a stack of shillings...

Say Roger, is it possible to use a rat on the side of a bench? I do not have any wall space left in my workshop :( and was thinking it might be possible to mount the rat to my workbench when required - a sort of portable solution. what do you or other ratters think about this idea? Esc.

Hello there Dave, I have one or two dewalt hand tools and there are impressive. However my chop saw is the makita and it is an excellent machine. Quiet small, but very solid and accurate. I would give the makita range a look before finally reaching a decision. Good luck and happy sawing. Esc.
