    Suspension of Activities...

Sorry to hear of your problems Rob, I must confess I have a similar issue to deal with. :( I don't have a damp course / membrane in my shed and rain / moisture is being soaked up by the floor when it rains very heavily. It's like blotting paper. I would like to install a damp course. Can...

    Pinless type moisture meters anyone?

Hello there Ian, which model do you have the L609? I think this is the most reasonable pin-less model to go for? Cheers, Tony

    Another damp WS thread

Gosh, square hope your roof problems get sorted out. Looks horrid. Last time I saw mould like that it was on a bit of cheese. It tasted good mind you, well that and the port. Esc.

Which stain to use on oak

Thanks Bedford and Alan, More interesting options to try and experiment with. I can see that everyone has their own favourite approach. I will report back when I have finished my box. Bit more woodwork to do yet! Cheers, Tony.

    Ok I get it now!

I approve, very nice Dom well done mate. I am also in the process of making a jewellery box for the missus. Bit worried she might want something to put in it - could be expensive! Cheers, Tony.

    Confused?

Hello Rob, Thats commerce! I suspect that AHC are giving up a large part of their discount from Brimarc and passing it on to their customers. I have seen a post that they have the lowest prices for Veritas planes at the moment. I would say that Brimarc are still making something as...

    Jons workshop (pictures...!)

Thanks Jon for that further info. I have just spent an hour or so surfing the net to find costs / options for sheds / workshops and I think you have done really well. It is good to save money on the building (without making compromises) as this leaves more for tools and machines. :)...

    Jons workshop (pictures...!)

Well done John, excellent. I am going to give some further thought to something very similar to yours. I would also be very interested to know how much the building/works cost? Sorry to be rude and ask but it would certainly provide a guide and budget. Did you make a floor plan for machines...

price of white oak(plaese dont shot me)

Pob, have you seen this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ory=112570 I bought a pallet of oak just like this and it was a very good buy. It will last me for ages and for small projects is very useable. Works out at about £8 per cube I think. Hope this helps. Tony

Which stain to use on oak

Gosh, thanks everyone for all that top and interesting advice. Firstly Ross, welcome to the forum, I must say a great first post full of useful advice. I have made a note of that Naptha stain. The application sounds straight forward, the added treatment with the button polish sounds like just...

Right thumb 1/2" shorter - OUCH!!!

Dan, sounds horrid, sorry mate. Hope you will soon be better and back to work. However, at least after the corrective op you will be able to bite your toe nail which is something I can no longer do on account of my beer gut. Tony.

    Anybody have the same problem

Waka, I am also giving serious thought to moving to a bigger workshop elsewhere in the garden. There is plenty of room, if location is further from house. Missus is not keen on allowing an extension to my existing shed which will involve moving path etc. (This is tiny 10 x 8.) I have the...

What's the opposite of a gloat?

My god that picture of that dog is hideous. Is it some sort of stuffed creature Smudge? Looks like it could eat an apple through a letter box. Horrid teeth.

Which stain to use on oak

Hello all, looking for a bit of wisdom and advice. I am working on a jewellery box in oak at the moment. The grain has some nice and interesting medullary rays showing which I would like to highlight when it comes to the finish. I had in mind a sort of arts & crafts medium oak colour. Can...

Visiting UK on business - Leeds - what to do?

I say Roy, Did you have one of those giant yorkshire puddings filled with chips, sage stuffing and onion gravy? I am sure I had one at Bettys, I may be wrong. It was somewhere in York and that name rings a bell. It was a cholesterol nightmare, but I liked it! :) Tony.

Visiting UK on business - Leeds - what to do?

Glad to have you aboard Mac. I would agree York is a good place to visit. I would add the National Railway Museum to the list. http://www.nrm.org.uk/home/home.asp If you like that sort of thing there is also the tram/trolley bus museum at Crich in Derbyshire not that far away...
