Killer whale v Great White shark

Did anyone else see that documentary on the telly tonight? Pictures of this Killer Whale attacking and killing a Great White shark of a similar size. The Whale apparently stunned the shark and then held it in its jaws upside down on the surface. This caused the shark to sort of fall a sleep...

Finishing advice for Pearwood suggestions required

Hello all, I am looking for a little guidance. I have nearly finished my Pearwood mantle clock and I am wondering what finish to apply. The timber is fairly light in colour and I would quite like to keep this shade. I have tried a test sample with some danish oil and also lemon oil and both...

    Domino...worth it or nae?

Welcome aboard Pete. I must say I am rather puzzled by your foot note. It seems to imply that you don't like being a carpenter / handyman?, or rather some one else doesn't approve. :? Tony.

    Which 12" disc sander ?

Gulp £609    I got mine for approximately half that amount a year or two ago. As good as it is that is too much for a disc sander. Tony.

    Which 12" disc sander ?

Mark, Don't over look the Hegner, if you can afford the cost it is a very nice machine, quiet, smooth, solid fence. One time purchase. Tony.

Which fixing? 3x3 post to a wall

Milky, When I last did this job. I used a forstner bit to drill approx halfway through the post and then used heavy duty screws which did not need to be quite so long. You can always plug the holes if need be. Another idea to add to the list. Cheers, Tony.

Competition Entry WIP - Pearwood Mantle Clock now completed

That is a very good thought Dev. Although, I think my case width will be fine as the arc of the pendulum is controlled by the mechanism and also determined by the length of the pendulum arm which I can set to fit. The arm will only be about 75 - 100 mm so the swing travel is not that wide...

    European Woodworking Show

That really does sound great. Although, I agree on the weather front, if it had been raining at last months do the demo by the axeman, the beer and catering stalls would have been washed out. Perhaps the answer is a large marque, but that would be very expensive. Tony.

    Domino...worth it or nae?

Hello Rob, I purchased my Domino when I was lucky to receive an ebay 20% discount voucher. This somehow helped to justify the purchase as a hobby woodworker. The Domino has saved time, and produced excellent full proof results on the few occasions to date that I have used the machine. These...

Competition Entry WIP - Pearwood Mantle Clock now completed

Hello Olly, Thanks for your earlier comment. I must confess I didn't really get to grips with the veneering aspect of this project. I wanted to use pearl glue as I had not done this before. It is effective but I do not have any veneering tools and in the end just used the glue like any other...

Competition Entry WIP - Pearwood Mantle Clock now completed

Well here is update No 2. on the mantle clock. Work so far has been on the clock cabinet. I decided to leave the positioning of the lower shelf in the cabinet until the door had been made in order to locate this to fit perfectly. I cut and prepared the pieces for the door. Here is a picture of...
