    Veneered burr walnut coffee table

Dear all After asking (and receiving) great advice a few weeks ago I have made good progress on my coffee table. I have some photos but did not take them at every stage so apologies for that. The design changed (obv) so that the main section is now a veneered panel measuring 600x1400 consisting...

    Veneering

Interesting thoughts gents many thanks I will try the PVA technique on some less vital practice pieces. I think my eventual panels will only be 400x240mm and will be floating panels within the frame of the table top - with a chessboard in the middle - maybe like this sketchup image but still...

    Veneering

Afternoon all I need to veneer a table top and having done small boxes etc before I think that the size of these panels means I am going to have to get a pump So Ive been doing some reading (and also placed an advert in case anyone is selling their vaccuum kit) Am I right that an ordinary...

    Lie-Nielsen No. 51

I hope you enjoy using it. Ive had mine for 4 years and it is truly a masterpiece. I never worry about mitres etc now - that are all spot on and perfect. I made my own shooting board using the LN plans - fully intending to get a 52 shooting board if and when LN made one - or even like you to get...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

A little more of this - now creeping towards the finish line! I used the dummy rear infill as a guide to get the adjuster in the right place and then transferred the markings and position to the ebony Meanwhile I had to file a little of the rear wall away to take the adjuster All fitting...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Meanwhile I turned my attention to the lever cap itself. This kit came with a bronze casting roughly the right shape Lots of filing, belt sander etc etc followed by finer files and then going down from 120 to 240 grit abranet Finally I cut the lever cap screw down to an appropriate length...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

I worked on the lever cap over the weekend I took a 1/2" length of brass rod and cut a 7/16 ACME 10tpi thread in it and also cut a lump of bronze about 35mm square from a piece I used a couple of years ago to make a previous lever cap and then used a disc sander to roughly reduce it to nearer...

Fitting Floating Shelves - Are these brackets Good or?

I agree with almost everything thats been said here but I think you have one extra thing on your side You have a wall at one end - so to help weightbearing you can screw a wooden batten on to that side wall. If the batten is 1/3 the thickness of the shelf, and you rout a slot in the end of the...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Another month or two has passed.... A little progress made... First I spent some more time fettling the infills to fit better Next a big decision as to whether to use a Norris adjuster - and although it would be easier to say no, I like them and I like the challenge plus I had one I made for an...

    Notes on Eynsham Sawmills@Witney

Eynsham Sawmills is where I get almost all of my hardwood. They have a kiln and a shed at the back where they keep it all racked. They have lots of oak, sycamore, walnut, cherry, cedar, beech etc etc - all home grown. You can spend as long as you like in there with a tape, small plane and...

Notes on CJ Clark @ Witney

Hi Nev I have used them a bit but.... Its really a trade place for sheets etc - they do a bit of hardwood and can order stuff for you (which they get from Timbmet - don't get me started on them) So not very hobby friendly Difficult to self-select They can deliver You can't order online NO...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Time seems to just fly by without me doing anything to this plane. Sorry I found a lump of ebony under a pile of old wood which I thought I had lost in the move 3 years ago - its actually a 6x6x3" turning blank and I thought that would make nice infills - don't have any ebony infills Cleaned it...

    Ryecotewood Furniture College

I went to the exhibition this summer - one of the students is dating my daughter. It was very good quality stuff - I was impressed with all the exhibits and displays. I met Tom Lie Nielsen there a few years ago when they did a Lie Nielsen afternoon demo day

    Pricing help!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly an innocent thread deteriorates into nuclear war. God help us all. Surely - if you ask an open opinion from a forum like this one - you have to be prepared to take whatever comes your way? I agree I think there's been some sound advice here. Good luck to...

    maths need checking

Agreed with MusicMan re volume in metres but that is only half a cubic foot - not 4 - there are 40 cubic feet to the cubic metre I get most of my wood from Eynsham sawmills which sells beech at £50 a cubic foot plus VAT. So with the VAT your beech plank would be about £25 Regards Mark
