Itech 260S with Spiral cutter head - First impressions

Interesting discussion. I used to have a Record C26Plus combo machine which had a standard 3-blade planer thicknesser. The finish was fine but it was sooo loud. I could only use it during working hours as it could be heard all over the village. I also had the Makita 2012 bench top thicknesser -...

    Walnut Coffee Table

Also... worth a thought... is to use the sap and heart wood but at the end before applying a finish, use VanDyke crystals to stain the walnut. They are made from walnut husks and, depending on the concentration used, will stain anything up to dark brown. They have almost a purplish tinge to them...

Making a brass infill plane (Hattori Hanzo, DP)

I was sad when I saw you weren't making a brass lever cap but actually the aluminium one is going to be lovely. Agree with Andy lots of good metalworking and woodworking here. Best regards Mark

Making a brass infill plane (Hattori Hanzo, DP)

Loving the attention to detail. I have made lots of those Norris-type adjusters in the past and they take patience. How many TPI is the 6mm hole? I only ask because that will of course determine how sensitive the adjuster is. Great work and very interesting WIP. Thank you

Making a brass infill plane (Hattori Hanzo, DP)

WOW you just upped the bar with those cupids dovetails in steel / brass! I am in awe if that turns out as beautiful as the 'female' component of it looks. I wish you all the best...however one thing which I would be concerned about is that brass is surely more malleable than steel? I might have...

    Rustins Plastic Coating reprised

I know this thread is 2 years out of date but I thought I might just add my ha'ppenyworth.. I have now used this on 4 or 5 different woodworking projects where I wanted (a) a hard-wearing, water and stain resistant surface and (b) proper shiny mirror-like finish I don't have capability to spray...

The last casting I ever plan to do.......

I completely forgot that I hadn't mentioned the iron before. So I bought some 5mm gauge plate and cut off 110mm then shaped and ground a bevel and then drilled two 6.25mm holes in it to take the adjuster! Sorry about that

The last casting I ever plan to do.......

The rear infill was harder and Im not sure it is there yet but defo progress made First I had to remove waste to allow the infill to bed down in the rear of the plane It took a fair while to get it to sit right as the inside of the bronze casting was so rough and irregular Then I needed to...

The last casting I ever plan to do.......

Thanks for the encouragement Chris - will work on it... I have made slow and sporadic progress over the last few weeks (no change there!) I started with the pad auk for the infills which were cut roughly to size... Then started on the bun for the front and decided to design it on the fly...

    6 panel external door construction

Many thanks for your considered replies... I have read all the threads I can find both on here and the Woodhaven and am a bit clearer about it all... However, I am still a bit confused about matching the rails and stiles and where through mortices can fit into this.... For example, there are...

    6 panel external door construction

My front door is pretty cr4p - lots of problems and its a bit warped. Theres some rot in part of it and I thought it can't be that difficult to make a door - especially after getting a quote from someone who wanted £1600 for a bespoke hardwood 6-panel door.... Here's what needs replacing: I...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Thanks Chris that's kind of you to say so. I have been 'rationalising' my hand tools - got rid of quite a few planes etc on eBay and I intend to use my home made planes a lot more. I am going to spend a few hours fettling them and getting them so they work better Many thanks again Mark

The last casting I ever plan to do.......

I got this years ago from eBay back when I had a constant saved search for 'casting infill plane'. It looks like a block plane, about 7 inches long, didn't come with a blade, doesn't look like it has been use much if at all although the sole and sides are fairly flat. There is a bronze 'bridge'...
