This is on Google books and it lets you see quite alot of the book for free as it were. There are some beautiful boxes there - I use it...

    Mini-router

Actually I wondered after I posted here whether all the normal collets which you get with dremels etc will fit in a standard 1/4 inch router collet?? I will see when I get home from work but it seems more likely than not

oil finish for oak stool. Toddler proof?

I remember watching a video a good while back on the WoodWhisperer website where he sandpapered oak after applying a finish - I think it was danish oil - whilst it was still wet - this had the effect of filling all the open grain with a mixture of oil and sawdust and looked great once it was dry...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

Decided in the end to go for Fiddes hardwax oil which I think produces a lovely deep sheen and can be polished up when it is almost dry So, apart from polishing the mirror itself which has a small scratch, it is finished Close up of one side SWMBO now says she really likes it so could I make...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

It's the Lie Nielsen radius cutter - a very reasonable £75! - I think it was £65 when I got it... http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=793283&filter_cat=&manufacturer_id=Lie-Nielsen&name=&user_search=&sfile=1&jump=48 It really does cut curves beautifully and the groove which the cutter...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

Spent quite a few hours today doing the inlay for the walnut mirror. First spent quite an hour or so working out the angles and radiuses of the curves required for this line and berry inlay. Decided on alternating curves in and out, with 70mm radius for the inner curves and 100mm for the outer...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

Thanks for the nice comments - I have saved the sapwood for the fire but it is worth just using the heartwood because of the lovely 'purple haze' that English walnut has. The new router cutter is going to be very useful as I do make quite a few things like this and I have struggled before to get...

    Mini saw

I think that saw looks amazing - and you could do it in your lounge in the middle of the night and not wake anyone - but the price! - and I don't think there is a UK distributor yet is there?? It would be over a grand here I am sure. It makes the Proxxon saws look cheap by comparison!

    Mini saw

Thank you both for your replies - I do use a shooting board and a mitre saw occasionally - but I also do alot of inlays where I cut 1-2 mm holly or ebony and fans made up of thin slices of holly and ebony and other woods which are a devil to cut accurately by hand - so I really think a small...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

Thanks to all of you for your advice - what a marvelous forum this is where one can get 5 different opinions as to how to proceed... I got the cutter from Wealden, tried it out on some 4x2 and it looked good - using a card scraper and a sander gave a good finish So I mounted the cutter in the...

    Mini saw

I am thinking about buying a mini saw as I spend alot of time cutting small mitres etc for jewellery box drawers and so on. There does not seem to be a great range of possibilities - in fact the proxxon range seems to be about it in this country... Has anyone got either of these...

    Circular walnut mirror need advice

Thanks for your prompt replies I had a look at the wealden thumb moulding cutter and there is a bigger one which cuts 28.5 mm wide and 14mm deep I mocked this up on paper and it looks a good result - the whole thing is 75mm wide and therefore there will only be 18mm in the middle flat I can use...

    WIP jewellery box

I forgot to mention the finish - I tried a product on a recommendation I had not used before - Fiddes Hard wax oil. I though it was outstanding - 3 coats, rubbed down with very fine paper between (actually used a Festool DTS 400 with 320 grit paper for most of it). The great thing about the...
