    Yet another casting infill plane.....

I had an hour or so yesterday - and started milling the bronze casting I flattened the whole of the rough inside with a 12mm milling cutter and it came out reasonably. I don't think my mill is accurate enough to get rid of these swirly marks completely - not that it matters as this will all be...

    Stanley 52 shooting board

Many thanks gentlemen for your replies. I guess it is a step too far - but the version in Jim Kingshotts book looked lovely and, as I also already have a LN51 I thought a more permanent shoot would look good. Maybe I will make another wooden one similar to one of yours Best wishes Mark

    Stanley 52 shooting board

In Jim Kingshotts book Making and Modifying Tools, he talks about Pattern Making and in particular, he made a Stanley 51/52 I would dearly love to make a Stanley 52 chute board and I just wondered if anyone has done that before? I have a medium engineering firm who are very friendly just up the...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bedroom chest of drawers. MDF for the cabinet with southern yellow pine drawers and an oak top. The oak top slides back after releasing a lever inside the top drawer to reveal a baize lined compartment for the gentleman's shotgun It was a right b***** to make. It weighs well over 100kg the...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Nice idea Andy thanks Any thoughts about the sole being too thick?? Does it matter if there is a 40mm long metal slope where the blade will rest - I guess not? Cheers Mark

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Thanks Pete Another thing has occurred to me. The sole of the casting is about 6 or 7mm thick and the inside is obviously rough. Add to that the 6mm steel plate I'm going to add and you get a meaty 13mm sole. However, if I want a 16 degree angle for the blade, then according to my rusty maths...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

Many thanks for your comments gentlemen Pete I agree that could be the way - have done some research on sweating a sole and seems pretty straightforward actually I wonder if barbecue underneath and blow torch from above would be a good way to go? Seems fairly straightforward. we will see We had...

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

It is becoming a habit - thought I was done with this but my wife went and got me a mitre plane casting from St James Bay Tool Co for my birthday. I have been busy with other projects so only got going on Sunday.... Here is wot I got when I unpacked it I haven't weighed it but it is another...

First real furniture project. Sideboard. Need some help.

If they are hardwood - spell or iroko or aformosia etc - then IMHO 15 mm would be fine. Softwood not so good. It needs to be dry enough - I agree the pictured one looks veneered to me. You could always make 8 legs rather than 4 and have 4 of the legs under where the partitions are?? Mark

    soft close draw slides

Many many thanks to all of you. Wow those Blum ones certainly are pricey - and I need 8 pairs! I will look at them all but it was invaluable having your collective inputs Regards Mark

    soft close draw slides

Many thanks Nev - but I don't think they are removable are they - I watched the video and they just about do everything else! but I didn't see how you could get the drawer out relatively easily unless I am being a bit slow - far from out of the question! Regards Mark

    soft close draw slides

Good afternoon everyone - I wonder if anyone knows if there is an idiots guide to kitchen drawer slides? Failing that does anyone know enough about them to point me in the right direction? I am making a large bedroom chest of drawers and the drawers will definitely need to be on slides. I need...

    runners for cabinet top

Many thanks Shultzy for the thoughts. Hows your C26+ holding up. Mine is OK - I have still struggled to level the tables having dismantled and then reassembled the whole machine for a house move 18/12 ago. I just cannot believe anything can be so counter intuitive and there are no instruction...

    runners for cabinet top

Hello everyone I have a slightly unusual project to make which is basically a built-in chest of 8 drawers in painted MDF with a solid hardwood 30 or 40mm top. The top needs to be able to slide forwards i.e. away from the wall about 150mm revealing a compartment inside behind the upper drawers. I...

    Latest hand plane

Thanks for your kind comments I think this one was a couple of hours to sort out the casting and polish it, maybe 10 hours or so to do the infills, a couple to engrave the lever cap, maybe 3 to make the adjuster which is a single screw, 5/16" 40tpi made from an old bolt and with the retaining...

    Latest hand plane

I didn't do a WIP for this as I have done that exhaustively for my last 2 infills. But I had a bronze casting plane which I acquired a couple of years ago which I always wanted ti do up properly. It had a nasty wooden infill which looked awful although interestingly it came with a 2" Norris iron...
