    Anybody able to cast aluminium?

I've been contemplating some steel tube wit 40mm id and the welding a plate to it in order to bolt it in place. Drill a hole through the plate to allow the shaft through.

I had assumed that this was how it was originally made.

    Anybody able to cast aluminium?

Hi all, I'm hoping there may be someone able to help me. I had an interesting day on the garage on Sunday. While passing a piece of oak through the thicknesser I noticed the aluminium casting on one side that holds the bearing was broken. Obviously I turned the machine off instantly. After...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bought home a lump of what I'm informed is Ash from a holiday to the lake district in April, had fallen in the storms earlier this year. Not sure how keen I am on the finished result, had a bit of a fight with the lathe half way through, but it will hold memories and is all good for learning

    Coronet no 3 HELP

I disassembled and gave the contact surfaces a clean, as you advised they were rather dirty and some oil had clearly made its way through. Gave it all a good clean and inside the head stock and it seems to be locking down now. Thanks for the advice. Thanks to all who offered advice. I do...

    Worth a look -

How do you stop the one on the bottom getting free? Also why are the cell doors open in the top cell? Is it the 30 minutes permitted exercise time? Where are the guards? Why do they look so happy?? Where are their shackles!???? The world is going to hell I tell you!

Hi all, Hoping someone might be able to advise. I have the bolt under the head stock as tight as possible but it is still not keeping alignment. Has anyone come across this and is there a simple solution to my issue?

    Still more wood ID.

Foraged some tree that came down in the storm earlier this year when I was up in the Lake District. Intending to turn a bowl (have an idea to find logs wherever I holiday in the UK and do the same, sentiment and all). Unless it's labelled, or has leaves I'm useless with this stuff. Any...

That looks a little pro than mine. I positioned the hose as far forward on the blade as I could as I'd seen YouTube videos showing that the majority of the dust will effectively be thrown forward. Does your set up have an internal arc above the teeth of the blade?

Yes, It's hinged on the wall so I can move it up should I need it out of the way. Hopefully it'll make a difference to the dust levels.......until I turn the lathe on that is of course

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I've spent the last week in 2 projects. Making planters for the garden and using up a lot of horrible scrap pallet and construction timber. Pictures will follow. And remaking my diy overhead dust collection. Principle of the previous one was OK but I failed to take into account the effect of...
