Who made this TYZACK panel plane?

Yes indeed! The casting appears to be identical, and the lever cap very similar, save for the trademark & lever cap screw. Thank you! Slater is one of my favorite makers! I now have a "lead" with which to do further research!

Thank you for that. Not long ago, I read something about your nail industry... fascinating, IMO! Sadly, it was destroyed by the "wire nail" industry, but wire nails are nowhere near as good (for furniture) as cut nails. Most people are not aware that craftsmen of old used cut nails...

Hello again Paul, Well, as I said before, I have been out of the wood shop for decades, so I have had a lot of time to think about it! Your question is not rude at all. As an aside, I have found that the British, in general, are some of the more polite people I have ever encountered. I...

Nice job! These are the kind of small projects that add exceptional usefulness to a home, IMHO. A lot of "bang for the buck", if you will! And attractive to boot! I like that timber (looks something like the grain pattern we see in yellow pine here, but more on the pale side). I need to...

Who made this TYZACK panel plane?

Thank you so much for these excellent links! I wish I could see London in person. It is on my "bucket list", but sadly, I think that ship has sailed... :)

Who made this TYZACK panel plane?

I was chuckling to myself yesterday... remembering your comment on the apron... as I was busy (and annoyed) emptying copious amounts of sawdust and wood chips from my vest pockets. Perhaps I should have given your comment the respect it is obviously due...

I mounted the saw till yesterday, and started filling it up. My little "wood-shop corner" is starting to come together. Now, I have to make four drawers! Then, I have to build the left door for my plane cabinet (on right below)... Then, put some doors on the larger horizontal plane cabinet...

Who made this TYZACK panel plane?

IMO, the plane is a good one. Hefty, solid casting, nice wood, screw, and lever cap. Works well, but the tote is small for my hands (despite a three-finger grip).

I will probably put drawers in there.

Who made this TYZACK panel plane?

Who made this TYZACK screw-sided, cast, panel plane? (Please excuse the dust!) The Tote is rather on the smallish side... Looks like rosewood to me.

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Brothers, On this side of the pond, (true) white pine, not spruce, hemlock, or fir, is still readily available and, despite the more modern opinion, is an excellent cabinet-grade timber. The American Shakers (who are arguably credited with making some of the finest furniture ever), unknown to...

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Dear Sir, I am not sure of the terminology, but I assume that a "skip" in the UK is what we call "dumpsters" in the USA? This is a "dumpster" around these parts. We call in "dumpster diving", and many of us partake of this activity on this side of the pond. I have been an avid "dumpster...

I put a few ledger boards on the back, and took her for a test ride. Plenty of room for more saws and modifications in the future. Four drawers for saw sets, files, etc. to follow. Nothing there that a coat of good green paint won't cure... Paint covers a multitude...

Continuing my work on the saw till over the last few days. At the risk of thoroughly boring the experienced woodworkers out there, I will post a few pics of the process I took. Perhaps some will find it interesting. I have been trying to use hand tools as much as practicable, and enjoying...

On the topic of infill planes; CAST VS. DOVETAILED? STEEL VS. GUNMETAL? ADJUSTERS VS. NON?

Agree with Orraloon. Looks like plane was never competed, but, the hard work is mostly done. Just need to get an iron, chip breaker, and lever cap. Then drill holes for the lever cap in the appropriate place, do a little sanding and finishing... you will have a fine plane for your collection...

    Woodworking Apron

Hello Paul, Yes indeed, the pockets do fill with sawdust over time. I have not seen flaps on these vests save those designed for turners. But, at under $19 US, the vest is a bargain, IMO. Quite comfy, very well constructed (good materials), and well designed (except for the flaps, of course :)...
