    Bandsaw advice

One additional point to consider is that no single blade will do all jobs so ensure you’re prepared to change blades depending on need. It’s quite straightforward but initially I faffed about getting the blade to track centrally until I got the hang of it. I’ve a larger Record Power on a mobile...

Screw storage... if you know what I mean.

As @eribaMotters has already suggested, I use the same plus those from Sistema boxes with the blue clips. Both are very sturdy and stack nicely. I used to be dragged kicking and screaming into TK Maxx but now occasionally find them in there in packs of 3 or 5. Morrisons sell the smaller ones...

    Record Power Discount for Lathe?

@Andy’s Shed there’s Turner’s Retreat near Doncaster which is about an hour from you. Not as big as Snainton especially for blanks, etc unfortunately. I was at Snainton this week - not much left and they’ll be a big loss to us. I wish them all well as they’ve been a great place to visit.

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Whilst I use Milwaukee 18v kit, their 12v driver didn’t feel comfortable in my hand - a bit chunky. I recently opted for the Bosch Blue 12v driver as it’s slightly smaller but I have to say it does feel a touch under-powered. Perhaps I was expecting too much and need to give it more time.

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

Thanks for the views fellas. @Bingy man getting it flush externally should be easy enough given the flexibility offered by the existing stud work, liner and internal boarding. I’d checked the external cladding when I was there and it was 18mm, pretty standard in design and so should be easy to...

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

Fair point about the photos; there was constant rain yesterday and the inside was partly blocked with stored items from the move but he’s cleared some and sent the attached over - it now looks live a different season outside! You’ll see that the doors sit flush externally and the photos more...

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

Hi all, Our eldest’s new place has a 6m x 3m wood clad ‘summerhouse’ which is insulated, boarded and powered. He’s looking to convert it (possibly temporarily) into a storage area and workshop. It has a wider than standard single door at one end, two wood framed double glazed windows down one...

    A trip to a toolshop

Axi’s Newcastle store is closest to me; it doesn’t look that large from the front and there’s not as much parking as say, Nuneaton, but when you walk in it opens up like a tardis. There’s normally plenty of stock in including the bigger kit and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Only...

    Harrogate woodworking show

I’ve been to the show many times, always look forward to it and will continue to do so. This year I went on Friday and had planned to go back Sunday but didn’t, not through disappointment but simply that I had too much on at home. I agree that over the years, the focus might have moved more...

    Carpet and fitting costs..

It doesn’t feel outrageous based on our recent experience…. Two rooms around 3x3m (although the carpet only came in 4m width of course) One room 7x4m. One room 6x4m. Hall (about 4x4m), stairs (with double winder) and landing and passage (2x 8m). No joints (our choice) so there was some...

Hacks to help cope with the heat

As a person who burns easily, I have a real fear of the sun - there are some good ideas already posted but I think taking on regular fluid and working at a sensible pace are the best, even if perhaps the most obvious. Above all, whether at work or play, please cover up and/or wear cream and...

    DX delivery service from Axminster

I’ve always had great service from Axminster. However, I ordered a couple of items on Thursday night from another supplier and had an email on Friday telling me it was due to be delivered on Monday - no problem. I received an email yesterday afternoon saying it had in fact been delivered whilst...

    Loft Ladder Conundrum

Thanks @DRC, I did look through Ironmongery Direct (nearly 2000 hinges) and was going to settle on a counter top hinge attached to the front (which I can beef up) rather than side of the ladder. What type did you use and if it’s not too much trouble, would you mind posting a photo? Thanks again

    Loft Ladder Conundrum

@Jameshow has pointed out my buffoonery as I’ve been proposing a cut too many in my original photo! A single cut and hinge in the revised one will give me what I intended from the outset of the post. @MARK.B. thanks, these would certainly have worked had I gone for my original posted picture...
