    Pen Turning newbie....

All, In case anyone is interested here is the set-up I got working. Proxxon DB250 3 Jaw chuck, jaws reversed 1MT Mandrel (Axminster) Noteworthy: The mandrel will also fit the 10mm collet just, but I had the chuck and prefer it this way. Regards Padster

    Mobile phone update support confusion

I have worked in/with technology for over 30yrs and am by no means an expert but.... If you put some basic rules in place it will be as safe as you can get. Keep software up to date (although N-1 is a good option to not get bitten by bugs - but check release notes and do a google search for...

Anyone put OSB through a thicknesser ?

Just a humble opinion here but..... It's what you've got, you've got a new set of thicknesser blades coming anyway, give it whirl if it gunks up the blades you can replace with the new you've already ordered so no loss there, if the OSB doesn't go through well - try the belt sander next... If...

    Mobile phone update support confusion

@Amateur I think the question is how 'tech savvy' are you. Without being disrespectful (which means I run the risk of doing exactly that) by asking the questions you are I would suggest it could be dangerous to use a mobile device, with apps without either knowing what you are doing or having a...

    Pen Turning newbie....

Thanks for the advice @Phil Pascoe any particular brands of glue? Like the idea of the plug makes sense As for the post well doesn't really have one per se at least not the same as a traditional lathe in my opinion Proxxon DB250 Regards Padster

    Pen Turning newbie....

All, I'm embarking on a new adventure - namely pen turning as I had a Proxxon DB250 mini lathe that was no longer being used, being Father's Day this weekend was asked what I wanted so repurposing this seemed a good idea.... I found a few issues but believe I have most things I need now...

The living hell of dust extraction diameters

It is crazy that there is no standardisation - and even when its standard it's not - 63mm two variants Internal and external 🤦‍♂️ I have no simple answer and buying a 3d printer to cure it seems excessive (although gadget/tool 🤔 ) so instead I've an ever growing collection of adapters 🤯 Padster

    Buying a Tracksaw

@bluenose what @petermillard said and his you tube series is worth the watch. Also FWIW I went the same way as you (in getting rid of table saw) but spent the extra for the Bosch - don't regret it and very happy - built an MFT as well and don't miss the table saw. Regards Padster

Where have all the bandsaws gone?

I can also tell you that whilst Axminster website shows no stock I have bought stuff recently that was showing out of stock but in my local store they had stock and I got almost everything I needed. Physically going to a store if near enough may be a better option. HTH Padster

Finished my router table, not as fancy as many on here but it will meet my needs I believe. It is to replace a trend crt? at least 10yrs old. Made next to my MFT and I wanted it to be able to be an extension of that if needed so you can take the fence and mitre out by just removing the cut outs...

    Show us yer .... Bird-feeders

To be fair, I like the squirrels there is enough food out there for all the wildlife, the birds are there quite early and the squirrels come later in the day. Padster

    Show us yer .... Bird-feeders

My wife wanted a bird table so I made this, it gets Bluetits, robins, finches, starlings, thrush, magpies, pigeons, doves, & squirrels. I put a mixture of seed, meal worms, fruit suet & nuts on the table first thing every morning, usually by the next day the table is empty. Oh and we had a...

    New computer spec?

At the risk of this becoming a “sharpening or political‘ thread 😜 I will put my colours on the mast, I’m what some would call an Apple fan boy! Now I’ll put some meat on the bones as well - I’ve worked in IT for over 30yrs, I started life as a hardware guy, mainframes, Novell netware, DOS...

    Bench Dogs Very Tight

I also have the Part Mk2 and have 91 holes drilled in a 25mm MRMDF top, I have Benchdogs, quad dogs and the benchdogs fence and have had no issues - I don't know if this means I was lucky or got a better cutter, but not wishing to sound smug it has made me happy and fundamentally helped in my...

    New workshop

Welcome Jim, just to echo Ians comments regarding layout - wait till it's all built, but for power and maybe dust extraction... put as many points in as you think you'll need.....then at least double it ..... oh and don't look at the bank balance! 😜

    Router table insert

I recently got the UJK Custom Router table kit and the universal base all of which were out of stock! How did I do this ? Well luckily for me and unlucky for my bank balance there is a store quite local and they often have stuff that is showing as out of stock on the web - I was told once that...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

So I had a need to clear my cluttered desk, working from home whilst predominantly being my usual MO - wasn't full time previously so I had more stuff 'grow'. I've been refurb'ing my workshop so have recently replaced all the MDF shelving with much thicker ply so it won't bow as bad (maybe...
