Slow setting Araldite to make a door?

Shed doors should really be constructed with mortise and tenon joints. I did read that half lap joints are surprisingly strong but only if they have clean surfaces. A router is far better than multiple sawcuts for that. A rough surface will lead to glue failure no matter what glue is used. Steam...

Slow setting Araldite to make a door?

I went off polyurethane glue after a report in ' Fine Woodworking ' showed PVA to be marginally stronger for joints. However my local kitchen supplies outlet sells two German made polyurethanes one with a 5 min cure time and another with a one hour cure time. I use the one hour type for complex...

Recommend me the best countersink for wood / ply

Wealden do a range of TC coated drill/countersinks and counterbores. They are odd sizes so you really need to buy their TC plug cutters to match. I've used them for 15 years and they are as good as new. Worth the investment.

Slow setting Araldite to make a door?

Yes, Titebond is an expensive brand across the range and I only now use regular PVA for indoor use. I used Titebond Extend to glue up some boards once and they fell apart after an hour in the clamps - lesson learnt. :)

Slow setting Araldite to make a door?

Using an epoxy glue is both expensive and unnecessary. The indentations will have no effect on the strength of the joint but certainly they can be steamed out . It's more important to use a weather resistant glue like Titebond 3 that has a reasonable open time to allow assembly. No experience...

Hello, and thanks for allowing me to join.

Pallet timber is rough , full of nails and often warped. People usually want money for them believe it or not. You might be better off buying rough construction timber which will need planing and drying out but will be straight at least.

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

With a powered miter saw just clamp a stop block to the right of the blade . Make a V block to hold the dowel and cut down into the sacrificial block and dowel. Don't lift the saw until it has stopped spinning to avoid marking the dowel. This will give plain counters of equal height. If you...

They're pliers Jim but not as we know it (them)

For crimping rings on birds legs for later identification ? They should be different sizes however.

Most practical way to add unit on top of a desk?

My instincts are not to permanently join the shelves to the desk - you may want to move the piece at some stage ? If you insert a shelf at the bottom to sit on the desk you could then hold the units in position with two threaded inserts and some nice bronze finished bolts. No need for a wall...

Most practical way to add unit on top of a desk?

If the shelves are fixed to the wall do you need them fixed to the desk as well ? I would simply leave them in position - the worst that will happen is that the desk will move little. Otherwise if you have a biscuit joiner the Clamex S20 fittings would allow a secure K/D fitting.

Concrete screws- use of -how to.

I bought a few boxes of Spax screws from Axminster a few years ago and still have them. They are Torx drive and the threads are tight and serrated. I'm guessing the pilot hole will be specific to each brand. They are also available in flat head and stainless steel. Highly recommended.

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

I like sites that actually complete a piece of furniture ! A few American sites worth viewing are : 1 Four eyes furniture. Great production and a self deprecating sense of humour. 2. Blacktail Studio l Ditto. 3 Workshop Companion. American again but Nick has a terrific delivery and...

    Memorial cross

You would need a router table with a 1/2" router and then invest in a set of chamfer and profile router bits. You only need the chamfer on the face side and I see a set on the Wealden site for a hefty £55. Door and window joining sets are similar and a bit cheaper but they would put the bevel on...

    Memorial cross

Yes, I would make it with three pieces using a set of profile and scribe router cutters or on the spindle moulder.

Removing/replacing a fitted kitchen cupboard back?

A thermal camera might be a good investment. I know plumbers use them to detect leaks.

Concrete screws- use of -how to.

Ideally for use with a drill/driver they are very useful and avoid the need for rawlplugs. They definitely need a 6 mm hole and can then be driven into concrete block or brick. I've put up lots of shelf brackets with them but the bracket hole usually needs enlarging and countersinking.. As far...

Hello, and thanks for allowing me to join.

Welcome. The main function of a jigsaw is to cut down sheet goods and general trimming. It's a crude tool. For accurate crosscutting try and get yourself a miter saw or table saw. You are entering the great black hole that is woodworking. :giggle:

    Learning to spray paint

To do it properly you need to invest in a dedicated room with proper extraction..For most items I rely on the rattle cans. The trick is to heat them in hot water first for about 5 mins and use a handle for spray cans ( They will be too hot to hold anyway ) The spray will be more pressurized and...

    Tapered Cuts

You can use the thicknesser to taper wood although for a 3 meter length a helper would be useful. Just make a jig to glide the piece through on a false bed - preferably an old piece of kitchen worktop -to stop it twisting. Raise the piece up a little at the operator end by glueing a piece of...

    Cabinet doors wider than tall

It's possible in theory but not often done. The 715mm door describes a wide arc when used will feel a bit awkward. Can you split the doors into 2 x 357.5 . ? Generally pairs of doors look better than a single wide span.
