    Yet another Bandsaw thread

As long as you realize these budget bandsaws are both only about a 1/2 hp in output so you will be very limited in what they can do. You will struggle to cut hardwoods over 2" in thickness .Their main value is that they allow you to cut curved cuts in sheet goods or thin hardwood. There are...

    Veneering a Hexagonal table

Excellent advice Brian. I might also suggest using Yoga mats as cushioning when glueing up veneers. They have one metallic side which will not stick to any extruded glue. For the OP this is a very tricky thing to pull off. You may cut accurate 60 degree angles on the long edges but they will...

    Cordless Batteries.

Thanks for all that. If the CE logo is a con how are we to know what is genuine or not. ? Looks like we have to shell out our £70 and take their word for it. I suppose it would be better to stick to a well known Makita dealer. ?

    Cordless Batteries.

Interestingly all the batteries I bought have the CE logo on them. However it seems to be a bit of a lotto as to whether you get a dud or not. I will stick to branded batteries in the future and keep a close eye on the generic batteries when charging.

    Veneering a Hexagonal table

I assume he is referring to the top. A balancing veneer will absolutely be necessary. I use welders clamps to reach into the center of projects like this as I find using curved cauls a complete nuisance. Unless the OP likes the edges of Baltic ply he will have to glue on six solid wood edges...

    Cordless Batteries.

Yes but even the clones should be fit for purpose. I should have known better as I've given up buying any Chinese tools . I've posted before about going through about six Chinese verniers before buying a Mitutoyo. I note that Amazon did not want the dud battery back but gave me a replacement 'as...

    Cordless Batteries.

Thanks. It's a twin charger and the other battery charged up no problem. What annoys me is that the batteries had very little use - I have used them in gardening tools a few times only. The electrolyte was quite corrosive as well, melting the plastic charger case a little. It looks like there is...

    Cordless Batteries.

Just wondering what experiences people on here have with cordless batteries. I have bought four generic Makita 5 amp batteries ( not genuine Makita ) . One was a dud and Amazon sent a replacement, no problem. I put two on charge yesterday and found one overheating with leakage of electrolyte. I...

    Festool Domino DF700

Just to be clear , only the Lamello Top series has the dial height adjuster and you will pay big money for that. The Lamello 10 has been replaced by the 21 and that's about 1K to buy. The classic a good machine and at least will be accurate in use. I see it has a dust port for extraction. I'm...

    Festool Domino DF700

That's old - probably 1970's. It has no height adjuster for the blade so I would pass.

    Festool Domino DF700

My first jointer was the Freud. It's cheap and cheerful but a bit crude. When joining boards you need as much precision as possible so I plumped for a Lamello top 10 after that. It has an adjustable blade mechanism which is simply brilliant and so useful. I see it has tripled in price since I...

    Whats this wood??

Looks very like Bubinga or African rosewood. Good for turning but prone to pockets of gum. Makes nice veneers as well.

    MFT top, ply or MDF

Not that I know of but I can't see why not. It's a sheet material made from solid strips of pine laminated together and then skinned with two sheets of veneer. It's the 'stiffest' of all the sheet materials . However if you make a torsion box it will be equally stiff. As an aside I make lots of...

    MFT top, ply or MDF

If flatness is important I would suggest blockboard. Any ply or MDF left on it's edge will warp imo.

    Round Head Screws For MDF

The core of MDF is very soft. I would imagine standard ' bugle head ' screws would be more secure assuming you had used a countersink bit. I love the Robertson head screws but they are hard to get this side of the pond.

    Spray Can Advice--Clear Gloss

I would second Robgul above about the spray can handle. I also put the can in very hot water for a few minutes and give it a good shake. It both disperses the lacquer and pressurizes it - as close as you will get to a spray gun. Chestnut melamine spray works for me although you have to be...

Night stands - power and hand together

I like to cope the ends of the rails as you say. It's quite easy to drill vertically from the top using the outer edge of a good forstner bit matched to the diameter of the legs. Needless to say the rails need to be clamped to the bed of the drill press.

    What bandsaw do I need?

Yes, the aluminium guides are ridiculously expensive. I've been looking for them on ebay for years but no chance. I just use a roller stand for long pieces.

    What bandsaw do I need?

The Hammer NS4400 is a clear winner for me with it's 4 HP single phase motor. Power is everything when resawing timber.

How to stop a bandsaw wandering?

Iroko is notorious for releasing stored tension. Try a different wood and if the wander persists it's probably time for a new blade.
