    LED advice needed

It looks as though you'll need a fairly wide angle LED for that sort of job but not an extremely bright one. So it will be running at a moderate current. Obviously you'll have to experiment to find just how much current/brightness is needed. More current = higher brightness = shorter battery...

    LED advice needed

@Stigmorgan . Are you trying to provide illumination as in a light for people to see by or is the white LED just a point of light for an artistic effect? As this determines the power of the LED required it will determine the size of the LED, the current through it and the size/lifetime of the...

    DW3401 tensioning spring arrangement

I'm probably being a bit thick but which is the extra bit? Is it the casting in the middle photo?

    Hole enlarging on a lathe

A drill is the wrong tool for this job. I'd use an expanding reamer until the hole diameter was close and either a fixed 20mm reamer to finish it off or just increment it very very slowly until I got the fit I wanted. This was the route I took when I had to re-motor my old bandsaw.

    Door stay/holder

My workshop faces east so I have to be careful to hold onto the double glazed door when the prevailing southerly wind is blowing strongly. If I don't it smashes back into the DG window. It hasn't smashed it yet but it's only a matter of time. So I'm looking for a suitable stay to stop the...

How to renovate a lounge with a fireplace?

I've replaced a couple floors with engineered wood. It isn't difficult. If you're doing the rest of the work then I'd suggest you're more than capable of replacing the floor. Just keep a chopsaw close by to minimise walking back and forth. I can't work out if Point 2 refers solely to the...

AXMINSTER WORKSHOP 100MM DUST COLLECTION CYCLONE SEPARATOR KIT 107756

Looking good @artie From the photos I get the impression that the inlet just opens into the cyclone void effectively injecting the sawdust radially towards the centre. Would it be better if you had bend to inject it circumferentially?. I won't say have fun as you're obviously having some. 🤣 Martin

AXMINSTER WORKSHOP 100MM DUST COLLECTION CYCLONE SEPARATOR KIT 107756

I'll watch with interest. @artie Which 3D printer are you using? It certainly won't go in my Robox: it's too big. Please keep us updated. Have fun Martin

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

I've been mulling over how to make a steamer 'box' for 2 or 3 years, even bought a wallpaper stripper/steamer in preparation and always thought it would be of the 4" plastic pipe variety. Why so long? I moved house and that's a long project. 😰. Having seen the video Cabinetman posted I'm moving...

    Plough planing small parts

@Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) Your sticking board reply was extremely timely and helpful. I needed to rebate a long piece of oak for the nose of a shelf and was wondering how to hold it adequately while planing it. Sticking board built using an old bit of OSB that I usually use for covering part of...

Metabo 260C 10" Planer thicknesser - First impressions.

@BareBear Generally a safety switch will be normally open so it closes in the safe condition. Thus if the wiring to the switch is broken/open circuit the failure is into the safe condition. I'd check electrically the continuity of the switch and wiring. Take care Martin

    Kity 619 Table Saw.

@woodturningbeekeeper They look like standard fuse holders fitted into a box to my eye. I specified many such things when I worked. A suitable replacement should be available from any reputable stockist. I would recommend the likes of Farnell, RS, Rapid, CPC though I'm sure you can find...

For Sale Rutlands Half Inch Router

Thanks for your reply Graham. I'll put your router on hold for the moment. My Erbauer stop yesterday afternoon in the middle of a job so I was looking at my options. It looks as though it's the brushes so I'm going to buy some replacements first but I will bear yours in mind. Thanks for your...

Extension / electric cable - the rubbery stuff?

@pe2dave Probably the cable you are after is either H05RN-F or H07RN-F depending upon power/current rating. I've used this before in my workshop and it is good. I previously specifed for the equipment we manufactured at work because it resists quite a few solvents including the dreaded MEK...

    Rutlands routers: any good?

My 1/2" Erbauer router died yesterday in the middle of a job of course. I only use it occasionally for DIY stuff. I have it mounted in a shop made table with a Kregg plate. Looking around many seem incredibly expensive such that my pocket hurts just at the sight of them. There are two 1/2"...

Recommend me the best countersink for wood / ply

I bought a single hole csk bit from Axminster a couple of months ago. I was surprised just how much of a game changer it is. https://www.axminstertools.com/fisch-premium-hss-e-de-burring-countersink-5-10mm-502161 I'd sworn at the rose type which judder and bounce for years although I found a 7...
