Post a photo of the last thing you made

@Jameshow Nice table. Should keep the ol' boys spirits up as think it's very pub-ish. Mine's a pint by the way. 😉 Martin

They look to be an excellent job. Well done sir. And the 'cluttered' workshop sure looks like paradise to me. Martin

Method to cut a shallow detail

Just an idea that may solve your quandary. Can you make it in two layers? First layer has your home design cut all the way through (coping saw?), the second is solid. Then simply glue the two together. I suggest you cut the outer 36mm shape after gluing. How important is the 5mm thickness? Ply...

    minimal thickness floor insulation?

Craig. Hi! Yes but if you just put down the polythene, Celtex and flooring that's a weekends work. A pretty full weekend admittedly...... Have fun. Martin

    Very Noisy Motor

In my limited experience of lathe motor variable speed drives (I've fixed two. It's the remit of a retired electronics engineer) the motor is wired to the 'DC' side of a bridge rectified in series with a power FET(field effect transistor). The FET is turned on and off rapidly. The ON pulse width...

    minimal thickness floor insulation?

I extended my partner's shed last year to use as my workshop. It was built with a concrete slab on the ground, then battens supporting a timber floor (not T&G). I had the slab extended then duplicated the battens. Polythene strips over the top of the battens then 18mm MRMDF subfloor bringing...

    Ajax Pillar Drill

Without being able to see your wiring I would have to agree with Machine Spares. For YOUR safety certain creepage and clearance distances are required especially in dusty, and particuarly damp dusty, environments to make sure no parts can become live and dangerous. Yes you can get away...

    MDF GLUE

I've been using Evo-Stick 'green' Resin W PVA and seems to work well. Also using biscuits in 18mm MDF but I guess 12mm is too thin to do that. Have fun!

    Squaring advice...

@MusicMan XRay interferometry: very interesting. I used to design the electronics for HeNe laser interferometry. I suspect your equipment didn't measure distance as such but how far a reference piece had moved just like laser interferometer. Please tell how if I'm wrong. The standard HeNe LI...

What is this thing? Hand tool with rotatable hexagon and six different sized semicircular indents.

I think you've cracked it between y'all. It is a tool to scrape the oven rack gunge off of your spaghetti pasta when you bake same in oven. It's shaped that way cos you have to hold the spaghetti vertically by the end and swipe the tool straight down the pasta. 😂😂😂😂😂

    Oak cook book stand

Small scale? No minuscule in comparison to my Wednesday volunteering 'job'! But thanks for all of the positive comments. Martin

    DW876 bandsaw help

@Ttrees I've found and watched Marius Hornberger's YouTube videos about his home made bandsaw and the trials and tribulations of the upgrade he did. Interesting. Matthias Wandel also built one on YouTube as well so there is some further information in his videos. The first thing though will...

    Oak cook book stand

Thank you so much for all of your incredibly marvelous comments. I’ll try and answer your questions. The cat motif was a specific design requirement from my daughter who is very much The Cat Lady! @Trainee neophyte The cat motif was printed in reverse onto paper using a standard laser...

    DW876 bandsaw help

@Ttrees Thanks for your comments. I forgot to ask about the motor speed as I don't really know. However I know the two blade speeds for each pulley setting so if I know the effective diameters I can work back from there. It is a face mounted motor ie. the spindle goes through the flange. It...

    DW876 bandsaw help

I have been given a motor-less DeWalt DW867 bandsaw. Apparently it burnt out and as it was somewhat expensive to buy a new DeWalt motor it was chucked. My options as far s I see them are: Find a new single phase motor and cobble it in Use the £50 1.5HP treadmill motor I have access to...

    Oak cook book stand

My daughter asked for a stand to support the cookbook from which she was cooking. After some deliberation I designed and made one which was, as is my usual wont, far too complicated. But my daughter and I are extremely pleased with the result. The 'A' frame support at the back was originally...

Advice on replacing raised beds in the garden

As Bm101 said raised beds help against carrot fly if high enough but in my experience doesn't stop the b!**y squirrels digging them up. 🥺 I've built four from tanalised decking. (Removed masses of it after moving into new home). Don't know how long it will last though.
