Jet JWBS-16 Bandsaw - electrical issues

Just a thought: capacitor measures 18.6uF but, as you may have an earth leakage fault, is there a conductive path from either capacitor terminal to it's case?

    Refurbishing lettering on brass sundial

@Jbonevia interesting video though I'm not sure why a renovation should require quite so much fettling of existing parts.

    Refurbishing lettering on brass sundial

I have a 3mm thick brass sundial plate where I'd like to refurbish the engraved lettering. My current idea is to clean out the lettering as best I can possibly using a brass wire brush and then polish the whole surface. Then paint the lettering black without having to be too careful and then...

Decent casters for mitre saw cabinet

Just had these 75mm ones delivered. Seem to be solid enough. The lock works on both the wheel and the 'spin'. A tenner from fleabay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383656455736?var=652063753151

    Redex

Twas meant as an upper cylinder cleaner to extend time between decokes. And, wow, how the smoke smelled.

Using a hacksaw cutting big(gish) stuff. Or how to saw a railway line.

Well done Dave. I'm not sure I'd have so much patience. I believe the 14TPI blades were being phased out because there are so few people sawing through railway lines these days. 😂😂

    POOLEWOOD 28-40

Not completely sure of my facts here as I'm not a motor man just did electronics for 50 years. Don't think it has anything to do with with the capacitor as that's for starting. Usually a motor is braked by dumping the energy (it works like a generator as it slows) into a resistive load. That's...

    Glue help please!

+1 for masking joints with blue tape or similar. Avoids a lot of clean up and places the finish doesn't work properly.

    Digital callipers.

I bought a pair of DML calipers a couple of years ago. Seem to be OK but I have to watch out for the battery running low especially in cold weather as the reading becomes inaccuract. The other thing is that although you can turn them off you only have to nudge them and it turns back on so I...

    Knob for bandsaw

@Garno This link seems to be an exploded diagram for the Workzone HBS20. There appears to be a spares list as well. https://ersatzteilshop.scheppach.com/product/Bandsaege-HBS20-Workzone-United-Kingdom---230-240V-50Hz-350W---80mm-39015139917.aspx Hope it is helpful. Martin

    Knob for bandsaw

If you can determine what the thread is and have a good idea what the important parts of the shape are I can always 3D print one for you. I have done the same using a metal insert pushed in to provide the thread. Martin

    Fed up sharpening pencils

You can lose all 96 in a good afro! I used to plant pencils behind my ear but then couldn't after wearing specs. Now I loose them just like the rest of you. I've never seen the point of the rectangular carpenter's pencils. What's the advantage over an ordinary one?

Building a car standing - process?

My experience is from a couple of years ago in East Sussex when building a two car hard standing 5m wide by 6m deep. Is situated 2.5m from the carriageway with a pathway in between. Planning was happy as long as it had a porous surface so we were thinking plastic matrix with 20mm chippings...

New scam - Humber bridge unpaid toll

My son-out-law has a summons for, I think, a speeding or parking offence in Dublin a few years ago. He had never been to Ireland let alone Dublin. The automatic number plate recognition system photo wasn't that clear either - could have been a 3 or an 8 in the registration on an identical car...

    Electric Drive Gates opener

For a given power level if the voltage is reduced then the current has to increase to compensate. For example 100 Watts at 12V (Power (P) = Voltage (V) * Current (I)) the current is 8,3Amps. At 240V the current reduces to 0,42Amps. Since the cable voltage drop is from Ohms Law V = I*R then as...

    Electric Drive Gates opener

The CAME system I mentioned before had an inductive loop to hold the gates open if there was a car in the way plus a light beam across the opening to hold them open if there was something across the opening that was non-metallic. Hence there were control cables from one side to the other and...
