    NOVA DVR XP

Excuse my ignorance but what is the DVR? I get the impression it's a chunk of electronics that, in this case, is effected by damp and dust. In my electronic design days there were occasions when my design would be subjected to d&d so would be protected with a conformal coating. This is readily...

Threaded inserts - namely most used size/s?

Try searching Screwfix for Insert Nuts Type D. That should reveal a couple of results of packs of 50 M6 inserts for less than a fiver. Couldn't see anything other than M6 though. Toolstation may have similar. Have fun Martin

Please help - battery life of LED lighting strip

Bit confusing. If it's 5V/2A rather than 5W then that should be fine. I assume it is just a W/V typo.

    What do you collect

Nah! That would require too much storage and they'd rust away. He's bought up all the Bailey and Stanley type 71 router planes before Paul Sellars hiked the price! 🤣🤣

Please help - battery life of LED lighting strip

Duracell MN1500 AA cells are rated at 2850 mAhr. Your LED lights are specified as 10W at 5V I.e. 2A or 2000mA. Thus the batteries should last 1.4 hours ignoring the drain from the motion sensor. Opening the door say twice a week over three weeks for, let's say, 5 minutes plus 30 seconds extra...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

Ah! Yes! But then it would have left just three(?) blokes and a ?????? and that would have been inferred as sexist. My prediction for the final, assuming three people in it, Misty, Charlie (snail lady?) and Radha unlessone of these totallyscrews up so cannot be selected/saved. Why...

    Joining water butts in series

How's this for a slightly different way. Please note though I'm not too sure it will work I think it shows some promise. Connect all the butts at the top but the top connections must have hose running from the bottom of the first butt through the top connection and then to the bottom of the...

    Wanted On the scrounge

I'm trying to scrounge a small piece of mahogany (see image) to repair a long case clock carcase. I need a piece 180mm x 10mm x 3mm thick. The grain needs to go across the 10mm width. I'm happy to pay for it and any postage. Thanks Martin

    Hobbies "Triumph" treadle scroll saw.

@David P . I have, squirreled away, what I think from Scrimpers pictures, is a Hobbies fret saw in reasonable condition. I use it only very occasionally though it's useful on those times when needing a fine cut or a deep throat saw. If you're really struggling to find the blade clamps let me...

    Chisel buying advice

Those black handled polished chisels were a thing of beauty 😍 I bought a set of three black handled Stanley bevel edge chisels (1/4, 1/2 & 3/4") oh 50 years ago after I married and couldn't easily access Dads anymore. They are brilliant, take an edge fairly easily and keep it. They are my...

    Defective Thicknesser or Hamfisted Use?

This may seem strange but the magazine Computer Active have an excellent "department" that helps purchasers sort out problems with suppliers. I've seen them help with the same sort of issues you have and 40% of the problems are not connected with computer equipment. Worth having a look. BTW did...
