    Stupid injuries

I remember as a kid at junior school dropping some papers in the playground. They were blowing around in the wind as I tried to pick them up. Technique was to put a foot on one then pick it up. Running around I managed to stamp on one finger as I did so. Vocabulary wasn't as fruity as it is now...

    DC Motors

I've mended a couple of wood lathe motor controllers, not that I have a lathe, and was a little surprised to find they were a DC motor. It's wired directly into a bridge rectified and the speed control is a phase controller so the motor is fed with larger or smaller chunks of the ac waveform...

    Warping

You too @baldkev . Like the photo - I'll bear that technique in mind. Well enough of the mutual appreciation society for now. 🤣

    Warping

@laurieo there are lots of people on here with masses more knowledge than I possess but my two penny worth is: First wood is wood and is 'live' however long ago it was felled and moves with the seasons and as humidity changes. May not be much but it always moves. Second when you cut it or remove...

    Why do we do it

But @Jameshow if you didn't have to repair all that carppy furniture you'd be so much faster making stuff. 😇🤣

    Never lose a pencil again

I stand corrected. A brain f&%/ on my part. 😂😂

What did you wake up to today!

Unfortunately @baldkev the drug sort. The techno one's not far away though and, personally, I think dunking anything in tea should not just be banned but a hung-drawn-and-quarterable offense😉. I don't have anything against people who dunk things in their tea, I just think they should be removed...

    Never lose a pencil again

Don't want to be a party pooper but if he's the sort of guy losing his pencils will he ever put them back in the draw? I must admit I do think the idea of using that otherwise wasted space is great and very ingenious. I'll have to investigate my machine tools.

    Maths help required

@Garno As a matter of interest which 3D printer do you use?

    Maths help required

You'll probably find a setting in your 3D design programme that defines how many straight-line segments are used to create a circle. At least that's the way I do it using Designspark Mechanical. As long as you've calibrated your printer then it should print accurately to size. Have fun. Martin

    template software ??

+1 for LibreCAD. I mainly use it just for drawing up templates to stick to wood a a cutting aid. Always draw a line of "known" length, 100mm perhaps so I can check the scale. I usually have to scale at 1:1.085 at print preview to get it right. During print preview you can also move the page...

    Joint help.

Just an observation but in your last photo it looks like the side piece has shrunk BUT the top piece hasn't, well at l can't see corresponding shrinkage marks on the side - bit difficult to be sure though. If that is the case and it is wood sourced and cut at the same time is there a clue there...

    Ban on airtravel

Is this just yet another diversion to take our minds off what is really going on?

    Budget Glue

I generally use Evo-stick resin W - the blue version or, if I want a long open time, Titebond 3. Sometimes I'll use Semforite if, for some unforeseen reason 🙂, theres a large gap to fill. That's where I went wrong! I tried Everbuild 501, or was it 502, and it was so thick I couldn't get it out...

I don't know who pays the rent but I guess we won't get our deposit back from the landlord.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Good call though 90% of the shavings will be pine, the rest probably oak and shouldn't be contaminated by finishes since I only apply by rubbing or occasionally with a brush. Hope that puts your mind to rest.

I bag up my shavings (I try to keep MDF out) and offer them on freecycle as pet bedding. Its not long before it goes.

    Ercol restoration

Only just come across your posts @scholar . Your doing a great job which I will be watching with interest. I have four Ercol dining chairs bought new in 1973 and used almost daily since: now in need of a bit of TLC. Thanks for the mention of Chair Doctor: I haven't come across this before so...
