Can anyone recommend some concealed / floating shelf brackets?

When I did a similar job for my daughter I carefully made a jig to ensure the correct pin spacing and to help getting the pins horizontal and level. Ended up with the right spacing but all the pins sloped downwards! What to do? I ended up using the BF&I method i.e. a big hammer and tapped them...

    Another dust extraction question

Look to secondhand, e.g. our very own @Robbo3 has a charnwood for sale at £50 at the moment in our for sale thread.

    Rothenberger Blow-Torch Not Working

Can you remove the gas cylinder and then stick your eye over............ Mind you see a weak and feeble spark rather than a fat and generous one and not know what's what. 🥺

@Stigmorgan May I suggest you put your extension lead the other way up, i.e. plugs on the ground to stop the sawdust going into the sockets. You always look as though you're having lots of fun with your wood turning.

Snipe, what am I doing wrong?

With my HC260 I particularly get snipe if I don't keep the board level as it enters and exits the thicknesser. I would have hoped your long support board would have cured the problem but it would also need to be supported as well so it doesn't rock as the other enters/exits the thicknesser. I...

    Removing double sided tape

Please don't use MEK. It really is nasty stuff and if put on many plastics will melt them more easily than acetone.

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

Judges with woodworking experience? Now there's a novel idea. I have a suggestion for you all: Peter Sellars Waits for howls of laughter/derision/amazement (why didn't they think of that before). 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Grrrr and double grrrrrr grrrr

Obviously got my pedantic hat out today. Is "grrrr and double grrrrr grrrr" three grrrrs in total or five? In other words is a 'double grrrrr grrrr' two or four grrrrs? And what's the difference between a grrrrr and a grrrr? Just asking cos I like to know these etiquette type things. Maybe I...

@Doris What a wonderful Santa's Workshop. Must have taken you ages and such patience. Glad to see there is a mad rocking horse there in the front. 😁

Had to look up what a Square of Thales is. Found good ol' Steve Maskrey had a YouTube. Looks useful.

    Soldering question...

Has anyone mentioned silver loaded - and therefore conductive - epoxy? Thus no issues re soldering. A small pack is not cheap though.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Brilliant, it's just big enough for half a dozen bottles of wine. Reminds me of the milk bottle carriers of yesteryear. Oh! Sorry! I thought this was the joke thread looking for a new home especially as it's 'real' home seems to have migrated away from anything remotely funny. Honestly...

    Joke Thread II

And no scope probes. So even if the scope was turned on HE'd only be looking at a flat trace. 🙂 Must be a member of the flat earth society. 🤣🤣 Good to see the joke thread making a comeback. 😁 Martin.

    Joke Thread II

I agree! Anyway it's not funny. Shortly after starting my apprenticeship (almost 60 years ago) I was talking to one of the ladies in the galvonometer department. The day she joined the company she had grabbed hold of the soldering iron to see if it was warming up. Third degree burns to her hand...

    Auto switch for vacuum

I bought Master and Slave Auto Power-Off IEC 3 Way 1M METRE MAINS Extension Lead RRP £18 5060038167057 | eBay and reboxed it so I could plug in my drill press, my 12" disc sander and have a gp spare. All I need now is an automatic dust gate 🙂. But seriously it's easy just to push the vac...

I received this text on my mobile this morning

I agree the text is probably a scam and I should have explained my thinking further. On the off chance that JF is a friend then phone them typing in their number or using your normal link for them. Do not reply via the text. That way if they had really texted you then you'd know if it's genuine.

I received this text on my mobile this morning

The reasonable alternative is to phone JF back, assuming you know his/her number, and ask if they really messaged (is there such a word as 'texted'?) you.

How'd you repair this (kitchen cupboard hinge holes) for maximum longevity but best economy?

My partner reckons it's a good enough reason for a new kitchen! Oh sorry this isn't the joke thread! Then again there's enough non-joke comments on the joke thread. 🤣🤣🤣

Is this old grinder worth keeping?

Not so sure about that. Yes a pat test is part of compliance testing and every mains electric device should be tested for compliance immediately after manufacture. However a pat test checks the earth connection at a high current, 25A if my memory is correct and ensures the insulation is better...
