Nothing to see here just an empty packet of Rawlplugs

Just arranged the tool vertically, set phone camera to macro, moved back and forth to focus and took the shot. Nothing out of the ordinary. 🙂 Martin

Nothing to see here just an empty packet of Rawlplugs

What a great thing to do ---- and discover. I recently found half a newspaper page from the 70's but couldn't see anything interesting on it. Sorry to say I screwed it up and chucked it: maybe next time...... Martin

    Cutting corian

I'm going to build a bathroom sink unit in the near future and am thinking of using Corian for the countertop. Does anyone have experience of cutting it or any tips about how to do so? Does one need special tools or particular blades? Tia. Martin

Philiplug Screwfix to be exact. Screwfix? Where have I heard that name before? I must have bought this in about 1972 at Dixon Scott in Sudbury, Suffolk when I live near there. Have fun Martin

Yeap. Still have a tin of it! Philiplug. Blue with white lettering. I'll take a photo of it later. Mix it with a little water and stuff it in the hole. We were tough in those days - didn't worry about asbestos or any of that cr ap. Martin

    A lightbulb moment, but...

Having worked where the life expectancy of semiconductor lasers and LEDs had to be quoted leaves me wondering about the life quoted for LED lights run from mains electricity. LED component life is generally 30 - 40 thousand hours but what about the other components in the 'light bulb' required...

Looking for simple design software or software designed for the simple :)

You learn more every day. This from the LibreCADwiki. LibreCAD (originally CADuntu) is a free and open-source 2D CAD application, which uses Qt (a cross-platform application framework). The project started around 2010 as a fork of QCAD 2.0. 5.0. Support for reading DWG files was added with...

    Sellers inspired workbench

If you press down above either of the front legs does it rock? If so it's the floor. If its racking front to back then I suggest you add a plywood panel between and securely fixed to the front and back legs to brace them. A diagonal brace would be just as good but probably more difficult to add...

Looking for simple design software or software designed for the simple :)

Watch out for the free trial stuff. I've been caught out a couple of times with software that is advertised as free but in reality is only free for a trial period eg. 3 months.

Looking for simple design software or software designed for the simple :)

+1 for LibreCAD. Not too difficult to learn and plenty of YouTube tutorials. -20 for Fusion360. Tried it for a few days then gave up as couldn't get to grips with it. And I consider myself reasonable computer literate having, in the past, used Coreldraw, TurboCAD, and others I've forgotten...

    Joke Thread II

I remember a poster for Fiat years ago. It said 'Designed by computer, made by robots'. Someone had scribbled across the bottom 'Driven by idiots'. Of course I couldn't determine the veracity of their comment. 🤣🤣

The maths behind cutting these bevels?

Although I agree @Jacob is being his usual controversial self - thank goodness, cos someone has to be - and while I would normally agree end grain first surely it depend upon what you are doing. In this case its probably easier to plane the end grain 'from the top' as it were rather than across...

Where do you hang your clothes at night?

Cleaner, i.e. going out clothes go on a rocking chair in t'bedroom; mucky workshop ones on t'floor. How can that post possibly be allowed? It's far too personal and I really don't want to know what you get up to with your organ. 🤣🤣🤣

Cascamite. Is it my incompetence or the product duff?

I too had trouble with cascamite. Swapped to semforite and have had no issues at all.
