Help Needed Please! Electric Machine Fault.

I think @AES is correct in his comment that brushless motors were far from common in the 80's and 90's. I'd guess not from having the ideas or the drive electronics but rather the rotor position sensor.

Help Needed Please! Electric Machine Fault.

Some observations re @Skeety 's post. IMHO dry/broken joints usually cause malfunction (e.g. full speed or not running) rather than blowing fuses. The only connections to the PCB other than incoming power and the motor are to the speed control pot(entiometer). This is designated VR on the parts...

Help Needed Please! Electric Machine Fault.

AC1 and AC2 are just arbitrary labels for the two AC mains connections. When you did the continuity test on the mains lead did you check there was no connection between the live and neutral leads between the mains input/fuse holder and the PCB? A 1.5V bulb is great for this type of test. Let me...

Help Needed Please! Electric Machine Fault.

I have no direct knowledge of this saw but have mended the PCB on a couple of variable speed lathes so a bit of experience with similar systems. Does the incoming mains supply connect directly to the PCB? If not what is it connected to other than fuses and switches? Do you have any way of...

    Anyone using Raspberry Pi?

As @Spectric said you will need a compiler and programmer but these are free downloads so no problem. The fact that you were contemplating a Pi suggests you have some programming knowledge so using C/Python/some flavour of Basic shouldn't be a problem for you but if you do just ask. Have fun...

    French Cleats For Workshop Storage

This is really timely as I'm just considering the same way of putting shelving and 'cupboards' up in my new workshop. BTW does having four battens on the back really spread the load or does the 'lowest' one take the majority and the rest take varying amounts - unless of course your position...

Advice on multifunction 13A sockets - will I burn down the family home?

Anything with the dreaded built-in electronics is a) going to be much less reliable than a bog-standard 13A socket and b) continually taking power. As someone who professionally designed electronic devices for ~50 years I'd keep with the standard socket and follow the advice above. Will it burn...

Number of Dominos needed to support shelf?

Somewhere on this site is the Sagalator. It estimates the sag you'll have in a shelf given the materials you using. Sorry I don't know exactly where it is. I would think it will be better to rebate/dado the shelves into the sides rather than relying upon dominoes but that's just MHO. Martin

Vibro saw, but not an aeropiccola....bought many years ago to experiment with my marquetry work, and never used in anger...

From the picture the bottom end of the blade attaches to the plate. If it's bolted down tightly then the blade will be static. Also looking at the yellow paint around the stud in the 'transformer' /base section it looks as though it's worn/worried away. Does that mean that the plate is only held...

Vibro saw, but not an aeropiccola....bought many years ago to experiment with my marquetry work, and never used in anger...

re the Heathrow noise. That's the sort of sound I would expect from an iron slug or some such in the 50/100Hz magnetic induced field of the transformer-like device you show in your photos ie. there's no switching mechanism as it just relies on the AC supply. However from the point of absolutely...

    Featherboard for top-mounted T-Track

How about something akin to an inverted fat 'T'. Clamp both horizontal parts to your existing tee track and your feather board to the face of the upright. If you need more I'll do a rough drawing. Martin

    Black & Decker smoothing plane

I still occasionally use my Paramo Planemaster bought circa 1970. Can't get the Paramo blades anymore obviously but the Record RB10 blades fit a treat.

A project with wood log slices... Some questions.

In June 2021 I was tasked by my daughter to creat log slices from a silver birch trunk recently felled and sliced by her about-to-be husband as bases for table decorations at her wedding three months later. Not wanting the unseasoned wood to split I liberally coated them with Pentacryl...

    Fixing 10mm studding into wood

Personally I can't see what you gain by doing anything more than simply expoxying the studs directly into the holes and more to lose by putting the 'Screwfix ' type nuts int the ends risking splitting the ends of the legs. Granted the studs can tap their own threads but why not use a tap if...

    Help Needed

From the pictures it doesn't look like there's room for a sliding door. How about something really creative (or even mad if you like): a tambour door. 🤣🤣 Yeah! OK! I'll leave now.
