Have you considered a secondhand one?

VERY IMPORTANT: 4 FEET 8.5 INCHES

In Finland we still have the old imperial russian broad gauge. 1524 mm. Historcans say that this system originally was invented as a way to make it more difficult for an European army to invade Russia.

When is a Disston saw not a Disston saw?

To me the name follows the critical part of a tool. The part that makes a difference between good and bad. That is the saw blade on a saw. Handles tend to break and new replacements may be made once or twice in the life of a good saw. I would not dismiss an old saw blade until I have tested it...

    Onduline Bitumen Sheet

Around here one cannot find an onduline roof that doesn't sag and leak. They seem to last two-tree years at most. Onduline isn't strong enough to carry the snow in winter. Still they try to sell it to us. However you don't have much snow where you live so I suppose onduline would work if well...

    3D printer - can't wait!

Wow.......I wasn't aware of their use in that field. I am deeply impressed! A machine that manufactures the best possible substitute for lost limbs at a lower prize than before is indeed a step forward for mankind! Helping an ill or disabled person to a better life is a noble thing if any.

    3D printer - can't wait!

I wish they could invent one that prints cast iron......... until then the only need I can think of would be making replacement parts for too cheaply made plastic stuff.

    European Language Directive

If we adopt English as the universal official language let's use the Shetland variety https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIqdc77Wxdo Way easier for us mainlanders to pronounce than that strange dialect spoken in London.;-)

    Band saw guilde recomendations.

With my engineering background I find the Woodpig style bearing orientation of the side rollers more logic so I will go for it. It may well be more noisy but to me durability is more important than noise levels. I always wear earmuffs when working around machinery and live out in the country...

Mill sawn timber - a few questions

If theese boards are air dried aldready they were probably felled in winter and sawn in early spring whickh is the correct way of doing it. 18-20 percent means that your wood is air dried already. As dry as you can get it in an unheated environment. Then an old well ventilated greenhouse will...

    How much 'oomph'?

Glad you got it all sorted out! This is exactly the way I learned...... I didn't trust the experts but I tested whether they were right or wrong. Sometimes the expert were proven wrong but they proved to be right often enough to make it worthwhile to listen to them and give it a try! Keep going...

    Band saw guilde recomendations.

Thanks Woodpig! That would be within our capabilities.... after a few minor changes to fit the materials and tooling. By showing this masterpiece of yours you got me thinking........ I wonder if each of the bolts that hold the side rollers could just be screwed into a threaded hole drilled...

    Band saw guilde recomendations.

This is what the old guides look like. Probably fairly good in their day but I want something that is easier to adjust. I am fairly good at welding and drilling and filing and that kind of stuff and have all the tools I need for it. I also know basic blacksmithing and have the tools for that...

    Axminster AW128PT thoughts? Need a jointer/planer

I don't know anything about that very Axminster machine but I can assure you that a planer/thicknesser is a very sound concept provided that it is well enough made. You have to plan ahead a bit better than when you use separates as most combinations loose the settings when going from one...

    Band saw guilde recomendations.

Hello I am slowly rebuilding a 24" E.V.Beronius bandsaw. While working on the new wheel guards I started thinking about the upper guides. The old ones are homemade and not very well made. A new set of upper guides of industrial quality would cost around 200 euros. That is quite a bit of...

    Barn Conversion to workshop

This looks very good! I like the way you recykle as much as possible and make use of an old building. I also like that you do a lot of work yourself. However....if this is going to be a small business I don't really understand why you would spend money and valuable space on a WC out in the...

    SIP Spindle Moulder

If you are into changing history you could just as well direct people to the reputable machine builder J Sagar&Co of Canal Works, Halifax Yorkshire. They closed down in 1958 but according to your time loop theory they should still answer the phone just like this prospective machine buyer would...

Electric motor - where to buy?

What dzj said. I have found that making machines from scratch is rarely worth the effort. Buying old machines in bad condition and rebuilding them is a lot more cost effective. If the frame and half the number of parts are still there it means a huge lot of time and money saved compared to...

    Fear of the glue pot?

Me too..... I don't like big glueups...... they tend to cause a mild form of concrete madness........

    How much 'oomph'?

I agree with the others. A well set up table saw should do what you are doing without any problems whatsoever. If it doesn't there is something wroung either with the quality of the saw or with the setup. I don't think you would need a bandsaw at all.
