    Secret Santa 2023 photos only.

My Secret Santa parcel came in two phases. Phase 1, 4 bottles of lovely Somerset cider and a beautifully wrapped parcel to keep until today Phase 2, a stunning 3d framed image of a cyclist contemplating some challenging hills. Santa also emailed me to tell me about the process - nearly all done...

Child labour - when did you start you kids off in DIY

I wish I could share tales of my childrens' adventures in making but none of my three really showed any interest in tools. Maybe it was down to the lack of enthusiasm I may have shown when evenings and weekends after a week of teaching were filled with things that needed doing. Still waiting for...

    Something exciting this way comes

Beautiful display! I just had a 4x2 table at a school fair. I sold all my little Christmas trees and some smaller bowls and one bigger one. It won't make me rich but it was a fun day. Hope you had a good day Stig.

WeCheer powercarving handset. Will it fit?

I am tempted to get a powercarving handset to attach to a flex shaft powered by a rotozip type motor. Axminster are currently selling the WeCheer handset for about £35 but I am not sure how this would attach to the drive shaft. Has anyone used one of these? Can you post a picture of the end...

    What professional should I seek?

I would be interested to hear what more experienced sawyers have to say about this but I have read that branches are not often good for making planks because they are unevenly tensioned. Cutting releases these tensions and results in sometimes quite dramatic warping. It may be better for turning

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

I agree that Nathanael's was the best made but I would hate to try to keep that clean on a kitchen that gets used for cooking! Imagine what would collect in all those gaps between the cladding strips.

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Another day, another lesson learned. Today it was about not trying to take the nublet down too far when finishing the foot of a bowl. I had finished finish turning a nice natural edge elm bowl and was thinning down the bub when it suddenly gave way. The bowl stayed put for a fraction of a...

    Which Coffee Machine?

I bought a Lidl espresso machine many years ago and have been using it happily several times a day every day. I used to use my mother's old spong hand grinder but my daughter bought me a fancy electric grinder (which cost more than twice as much as the espresso machine) and that does speed up...

    Which woods?

I turned some pieces from a mimosa tree from my garden at my local men's shed. It didn't bother me but someone else there found the dust particularly irritating. I guess different people have different reactions but if you blow your nose after a session without a respirator you will see why you...

    What a (cooker) knob!

This sounds like a plan! If I sneak up on it there shouldn't be too much risk of drilling away too much of the flat in the hole!

    What a (cooker) knob!

I have chiselled away a bit and managed to get two fitted but it is a slow and tedious process.
