    whats wrong with this

I built some nuc boxes which I detailed on here, and some brood chambers I think. I'll see if I can dig out a link. Not really beehives but: Landing Boards https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1958 Lots of info on Dave Cushmans site though...

    Excessive packaging or useless junk?

No, I use them to protect the tools, and carry them from one place to the other. I just wish they weren't so cheap and flimsy - some are very poor quality. Adam

    New workshop at last!!!

That looks quite accessable, I hope you are going to beef up the security a bit, some big locks, better hinges, secure the windows etc? A crowbard can make short work of shed door. Have you sorted out how to get your electrics down there yet? Adam

    Tormek 1206...

That can make a difference when you are sharpening plane blades. Adam

    Tormek 1206...

I've got the 2006, and appreciate the larger diameter - but is it worth the price premium? I can't comment as I've not tried the smaller type. I do find it does an excellent job of all my sharpening needs (I'm not in the more-hours-sharpening-than-making club). I appreciate their is ways to get...

    Decktastic....

I ended up pressure washing mine annually, and giving it a new coat of these wax based preservatives. As far as I could see, it didn't cause any visible damage. I didn't use the pressure washed nozzle too close to the timber. Adam

    Site and Workshop Joinery Magazine

One sucessfull thing I've seen is getting people to subscribe to a free daily/weekly/quarterly newsletter (by email) which has a limited amount of information, with links to a main website which is subscription only and has the full article. That way, people get a good sample of what they might...

    Site and Workshop Joinery Magazine

I'm surprised their isn't a profitable business in that, if only a quarterly. There must be plenty of companies that want to advertise to fitters/carpernters, site tools etc, and companies advertising cutters for profiles for doors etc (giving one specific example). Again, wood sources, workshop...

    ventilating/insulating a shed roof

Could you cut a hole and put some mesh across to allow some ventilation into the top space? Adam

Bathroom cabinet now a pile of scrap

Ahh mistakes. I make them regularly and have documented some of them on here. I would have turned it into a "shop" cabinet if it'd been me, rather than burn it, but no doubt even though you may not think so, you will have learnt a few lessons, about glueup, checking squareness, whatever caused...

    Insulation....take a look.

After you've fitted it, put a vapour barrier sheet over the whole lot before you board it. Presuming you have a vapour permeable membrane on the outside, under your external cladding (or nothing) I think you'd be fine. Adam

    Workshop Cladding

Whatever you do, don't let your insulation touch your electrical wires (if its polystyrene - you can get get ion migration from cables to polystyrene.) I guess it's most umlikely you;ve chosen polystyrene though if you are trying to use fire retardent materials in your constrution. Adam

    Workshop Cladding

I used OSB on the inside walls. Cheap and easy., and its been fine. Adam

    Fox or Scheppach,?

I have the Scheppach and can't fault it, although I've nothing really to compare it to. I find it smooth, simple, easy and reliable. Adam

your workshop - whats the best lighting?

I have to admit I thought the "strobe" effect of fluorecents was only true years ago, - and that for many years now, electronic ballasts now excite at such higher frequencies that no strobe is visible. I've used flourescents as the sole light source in my workshop and never seen such an effect...

Big Garden sheds and planning issues

You can get people from a different angle, and its nothing to do with planning, its to do with whether or not it spoils you right to enjoy your own garden. Regardless of the legitimacy of the structure, if it spoils your enjoyment (noise, bird-sh*t) or similar, they can enforce a requirement for...

    Cutting bricks with mitre saw

Quick route to removing your fingers in a nice mitered fashion. Its quick enough with a angle grinder - depends on the application but you can do a partial cut, pop it between two raised surfaces and give it a tap with a 'hammer and it shoudl break cleanly along the line. If you cut the topside...
