Some help please - drawer runner issue

Oh no sacrilege!🤣 Whatever works for you but given the undercoat is not the top coat colour I would be mightily surprised if you're achieving top coat perfection with one top coat. But each to their own

Some help please - drawer runner issue

So it's something to do with the positioning of the runner. Tried the drawer in one of the other slots and fits like a glove. Swapped the runner out with another and same issue. Moved the position of the runner and same issue but not as pronounced. For now I've decided to live with it and...

Some help please - drawer runner issue

Not yet but that's a very sound suggestion and will do next to narrow it down. I tried to ignore it and put the fronts on but it sits enough mm proud of the other drawers to bug me but would be unnoticeable to most🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Some help please - drawer runner issue

Hmm, it continues to bug me. The fact the runner has more room to travel means the only way it's going to lock in is if I brought the face closer to the front. But if I did that, it will push the front proud of the face frame.

Some help please - drawer runner issue

Now that you mention it, at the beginning I was out with the spirit level and noted the left side of the carcass was not 100% perfect so I used a tiny 1mm shim at the rear to fit the runner level but maybe in doing so I've made it slightly out of whack with the right side and enough to cause...

Some help please - drawer runner issue

Building my very first set of drawers (well, first from scratch ie not IKEA) and all is going surprisingly well despite many occasions of confusion with the Blum instructions and exact measurements required for the runners. However I've got one odd issue. One of the runners isn't fully...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

These hinges have been chopped double into the door and it just looks a mess. Plus hasn't bothered to chop back any of architrave etc where hinge hits so, well it's just a whole bodge isn't it. To those who know what they are doing, the photos are an obvious sign it's gone wrong. Unfortunately...

    Overboarding a landing

I've made myself busy with other projects as still not 100% on this. Most likely I won't lay a plywood subfloor and just carpet the landing and stairs. If you only can see the front/stair end of the landing then you can ply the landing and run the carpet over the lip where the landing/stair meet...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

Agree and unfortunately "skill and pride" are almost unquantifiable which is why it is so hard to find the quality most of us want. Another dynamic is that non-paying clients must be on the rise as there are an increasing number of trades demanding payment on the day of completion, which leads...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

I think the problem is that Checkatrade get paid roughly GBP600 per year per paid member i.e. doesn't change based on job value. So my guess is this GBP1000 max guarantee is what they've worked out is a level where it minimises actual costs to themselves without getting into bigger insurance...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

I do indeed. So this is why I contacted the tradesman the other day, to give him the required 7 days to rectify the situation which given the joint issue equates to replacing the doors and suddenly acquiring the skills to be called a carpenter... Once the 7 days are up I have to leave negative...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

It reminded me why ex plastering I've decided to do the whole renovation myself. I've tried multiple different routes over two decades of properties and the bad far outweigh the good. Moving to Yorkshire from London I was hoping the smaller community would ensure less chance of rogue traders...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

You know what I actually said to my wife last night it was a moment I could have cried. What kills me is that this is a job I had planned to do myself, had done all the research, bought the souber for the locks, started making router jigs for the latches, had researched proper solid oak...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

Also I'd argue this isn't a "how much did you pay" situation. Even if I'd found a joiner offering the cheap as chips rate they shouldn't be deforming the doors in this way. For every good tradesman there are nine others willing to tarnish the industry. Unfortunately for this one I am legally...

What do you charge - bathroom locks/doors

I normally try and look for the positives but struggling here. Due to a rotator cuff tear had to pull the trigger on a tradesman fitting the oak doors. Went through checkatrade, found best reviewed etc.... I could talk about the butcher approach to hinges/latches. I could talk about the...

Vertical support beam - concerning cracks

I'm guessing you'd have to compare like for like logs, ie compare one June average with another year June average and so on to account for natural movement from summer to winter etc?

Vertical support beam - concerning cracks

Ooo they look interesting and I think I'll pull the trigger. I'm sure everything is fine but at least if it's not this will help me before it becomes a significant issue. Thank you all! 👍

Vertical support beam - concerning cracks

Well spotted, I did coat it in Ronseal after the photo as it was the need to top up the treatment that made me look at the cracks in the first place 😂😂
